This story bridged the difficulty of losing a parent with a touch of humor and a sensory gift of the smell of roses. Thank goodness for eternity. Maybe we'll laugh a little more about the hard times then. Good luck in the contest.
Little comma fixes:
Tears streamed down my cheeks, and then I smiled and said, "Thanks, Mum."

This was a really interesting piece to read and I thought you wrote it really well. I can imagine this wasn't an easy piece to write about losing your Mum and I am really sorry for your loss. A well written piece. Good luck in the contest.

I'm with you, K. I would not have wanted a nurse like that , I suppose he thought he was doing a good thing. This is a lovely story of your mother letting you know she was still with you, always. Beautifully written,
cheers,
valda

This is such a cool story, Kay! And how cool that you have the gift of smell from the "otherside". I really liked "The body is only their suitcase they used in life." That's true. But the male nurse who doesn't understand that thought it was important for you to connect those last moments with your mom's "suitcase" while it was still "warm."

This was a heartfelt and touching story, told wih sincere emotion. The passing of anyone we know is a sad occasion, but the loss of a parent is most difficult. I agree that the nurse's actions were terribly wrong. However, I'm sorry for your loss, but glad you had the sweet scent of roses to let you know your mum was at peace. Great story. Best wishes in the contest.

I enjoyed reading your story and how wonderful your mother contacted you with the smell of roses. It must have been such a good feeling to smell them. I too, do not like to view deceased bodies of loved ones so I can understand why you were upset with the male nurse. This is an excellent story for the contest.

I simply loved when you said "They are sleeping in the arms of the Lord." I had a similar situation when my 4 yr son, Michael passed. He'd always given tiny mum plants to his grandmother and me so he could say he brought his own present. When he passed, my employer sent a huge mum plant and the petals didn't even last the day. I sent it home with my mother, saying would she please throw it away. the next morning she called to tell me she'd gotten her last mum plant from Michael. It was blooming perfectly!
Smiles, Carol

Hello Carol, Many thanks for reading. Death is simply a transition to eternal life. Well, that blooming plant told you all. There is no death, Michael was reaching out. K xx

What a beautiful story, Kay, and I'm so sorry I have nothing more to give you! What I loved about it was that it wasn't gushing in sentiment at the start and this made the impact of the roses' scent all the more stirring and impactful. I could well appreciate your irritation at the forceful way in which the nurse dragged you to the chapel. We all have our own way of dealing with death. There is never a right or a wrong one. Well done on recounting this experience with such eloquence and honesty. Good luck! Debbie xx

Hello my friend. Many thanks for reading. We all deal with death in our own way, he took that away. The roses from mum gave it back. Nothing ever dies, simply transforms to Eternal Life. Love, Kay xx
