Wow, I would be a nervous wreck if I had to listen to all that when I was driving. am presuming that the 'trade my husband in for a younger model' was tongue in cheek in this rant. I would have to turn that voice of I'm afraid and rely on ME
An interesting rant, and you've convinced me I shan't be trading my old car in, ever.
cheers,
valda

Thank you very much Valda. Yes, that bit was tongue in cheek. He's a terrible driver , but he helps with household chores. i do appreciate him. I believe I will turn her off!

That's a pretty good rant, Wendy. I, also, have problems with the new technology that exists in our automobiles. A while back, with my wife driving, she almost rolled the car over when our car tried to steer us into a lane that we were leaving.

Oh, that's not good. Mine doesn't take over, it just beeps if the driver hasn't indicated a lane change, (which is safer). Thank you very much for the review.

You speak for the frustrations we all have, especially those of us from older generations, with technology. Technology is great; when it works, and if you know how to use it. I have had similar experiences with my car, which I bought a year and a half ago. I find most of this new technology annoying, at best, and downright intrusive sometimes. I have 'normal' mode, 'sport' mode, which apparently just revs the engine and delays shifting and makes the wheel turn harder to make it seem more like a sport car, and 'smart' mode in which the car learns my driving habits and then drives the car like I do. Which sounds kind of redundant, to me... I never use the lane assist, which feels like the car is fighting me for control of the wheel. The warnings about changing lanes are distracting, especially when you are just turning normally. There, so now I have had my rant. estory

Thank you so much for this fine review. I appreciate it. You are exactly right re new technology. I too have sport mode - now I know what it does!! Thank you. Mine only warns about lane changes if you aren't indicating. Thanks again.

Wendy,
I like your excellent rant. When did automobiles become so complex. I like your wonderful narrative; it's as though you're speaking to your audience directly.
Excellent work, Wendy
Best wishes, Cindy

*My grandfather bought a model t about 100 years ago; it was easy to run. And to make things less complicated, he didn't need to take a driving test back then; a generic driver's license was tucked away in the glove compartment . It came with his car.
Now some people own driverless cars, which of course, sometimes inadvertently crash into pedestrians. They haven't worked all the bugs out yet.
Have a great weekend, Wendy.

Thank you so much for a great review! A generic driver's licence! That's something!
Our city has just opened a new metro system, with driverless trains.
Hope there aren't any computer malfunctions!!
    Thanks again.

This rant is hilarious. My husband has a newer model car, and he doesn't listen either, even when his GPS is giving directions. When I chime in to help, he says "I can't listen to both you and her." I drive a 2012 SUV which my daughter says is dangerous because, "It has no safety features or built in GPS."

I totally understand your rant. I wouldn't want to hear all those messages. However, I hope after you get used to it, you enjoy your new car. Best wishes in the contest.

Lol. Our husbands must be very similar. So he uses the helpfulness of the car plus my helpful contributions to justify doing his own thing, and ignoring our advice!! I am getting used to it, but I might switch it off, and just do MY own thing! Thanks so much for your super review, and for the good wishes! Both are appreciated.

Excellent entry for the Write A Rant contest. I like your rant. It's funny.

Thank you for choosing a rant we can relate to with peace of mind. I hate political rants.

In America we have GPS The Global Positioning System. Overall, It works well, but sometimes it gives unnecessary rerouting information. It's helpful but not perfect. Your GPS sounds annoying if you are not an automobile navigation system genius. I would get frustrated too.

Well done! Good luck in the contest.

Yes, we have the GPS in the car - not working effectively at present, until I figure out its programming. Thanks so much for your fine review, and also for the good wishes. (And yes, I am sick of political rants, which tend to get hateful and spiteful, and are divisive.) Thank you too for the good wishes.

That was enjoyable, Wendy. For us, if not for you. I can imagine how frustrating that was. I don't even like the voice on the navigation system and prefer to turn it off and just watch the screen. They interrupt too much. Sometimes less is more.

Poor hubby. I'm pretty sure I would be in the same boat. I'm a little bit impatient when it comes to driving, and I get irritated when I see driver's dawdling or being too cautious and not turning (and allowing me who is behind them to also turn) when they have plenty of time to make the turn.

Hi Wendy,
I'm like you. I prefer user-friendly models, with very little extras in today's technology. I do like some things, like back-up cameras. That's definitely a plus. And a beeping noise when my wife hasn't fastened her seat belt. Also beeps to warn me that I've forgotten to turn off my signal light. (This might happen because I've got the music playing too loud, singing along with Gordon Lightfoot, The Eagles, or Billy Joel.) Most cars have "cruise control" system these days, but I never use it. I just don't trust it. I mean, I shudder at the new technology feature where the car steers itself!!! That's crazy stuff!
A nice entry for the "Write A Rant" contest, Wendy! Good Luck with it.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thanks so much Kimbob. Yes, it has cruise control; we don't use that either. Our city has just opened a metro train service with driverless trains. Thank you for your fine review, and also for the good wishes.

I like the idea of a driverless car, but somehow that doesn't make sense, and who can truly trust AI anyway, it's in its relative infancy at the moment. Yes, my daughter has a cat like that, but she must have turned off the voice, but souses things like the reversing camera, one can still glance at the speed anyway, mistakes are made whether the bells and whistles work or not, beautifully written, Blessings Roy

Thanks Roy for reviewing. I appreciate it. Sydney has opened a new metro line with driverless trains. Let's hope it is safe, reliable, and trustworthy.

I am not sure I could stand the car telling me what to do and technology has gone a step too far here Wendy. I my old 17 year old Berlingo does as it's told and that is the way I like it. This is a fascinating read and I loved the humour here, love Dolly x x x

Thanks so much Dolly! This car is five years old, but hasn't been driven much, but I think its technology is more than I want to hear, so as soon as I figure out how, I'll be turning her off! Glad you enjoyed.
