Your story hit home for me. I have a brother who has spent his life being a "good and faithful servant". This is the true measure of all of us. Thank you!

Thanks so much for reviewing. You understand. We are still to be valued regardless of what we can do or not do.

What a lovely story!! Another example that we can all be heroes every day by following our particular path in life. Thanks for sharing this inspiring, well-written piece. ann

Thank you Ann. Yes, we can all work to show love and care within our own circle of influence. A lovely review.

Hi Wendy,
This is a nice tribute for John. And I agree, in Heaven he'll have no need for a wheel chair. He suffered while on this earth, but he performed a good work in selling pens, a fund-raising activity for the charity "A house with no steps", providing appropriate, comfortable, wheelchair-accessible accommodation for people confined to a wheelchair. I have no doubt that Jesus welcomed him, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
There was a young mentally-retarded man who attended church regularly years ago, Donnie G. He wasn't educated, and had no job, living at home with his brother. But he often stood up in church, reciting Bible verses word for word. It was easy to tell he had a great deal of satisfaction and pride in saying those verses in church. It must have taken him hours upon hours to learn them. Sometimes he'd trip over certain words, but he'd continue with a huge smile on his face. He put many of us to shame!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you so much for the lovely review, and for the wonderful story of Donnie G. His heart was with Jesus, and he rejoiced in Him. I think there'll be a few surprises in heaven.

Hello Wendy,
I'm so glad I had saved one last six. I truly enjoyed this story. I'm so glad you shared it with us. It would certainly leave a hole in the hearts of those who interacted with John. We often don't know what an impact someone has had on us until we no longer see them and realize we miss them. Your story enforces the belief that every person is valued and loved by God, and hopefully we'll all recognize that no one is expendable.
Have a blessed evening gal.

This was a very nice tribute to the man, Wendy. He did a job, a job with purpose and probably far reaching results. It shows by your description of the funeral attendance and social media posts, just how important this man was to the community. Great piece of writing. Gretchen

This is a great story of John and his life from that wheelchair perspective. It is noteworthy that his example can continue through activities focused on helping others as God intended.

This is a lovely story about a man who served others as best he could. I wonder if anyone ever thought to take a picture of John? It is a wonderful idea to honor him with a plaque. Everyone should know how he served his fellow man.

I am sure that John enjoyed being there each day greeting people, selling his pens and would be very humbled by your lovely story about him and his impact on his community. A lovely story to share, Wendy with many a lesson too.

If john sold the pens for charity and not for profit, I'm to assume he lived on government funded programs?
This is an excellent story, Wendy. I'm glad you shared it with us.
Not knowing anything different, john lived his life the way our lord intended and did it very well for forty years. And now has gone through the pearly gates and has a body which. No longer hurts.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
John
