Hi Jim,
I love genealogy too. I have my roots traced back to 1800s with names.
And I know the my Scottish clan started in 1260. We had royalty, nobility and scoundrels in our line.

I always think it's so cool to have Italian heritage and your beautifully presented post proves a point. Your charming little verses, under the separate 3 syllable or more headings, provide a magical little snapshot of this wonderful country and your precious link to it. Well done and good luck, Jim! This poem, My Italian Genes, says a lot and is a great poem -- except -- the restrictions on the odd lines are that the words be either a noun or adjective.
Discovering, digesting, and reuniting are all verbs.

I liked this very much, Jim. I think the element I enjoyed most was your genuine excitement in looking into your heritage. I could see your smile in every word.
As always, you've chosen your rhymes well. I got a particular kick out of "illumine"/"consumin'" and "Christoforo Columbo"/"Marco Polo." You also did a very good job in choosing your 3-syllable+ words, except in one case. "Wondrous" only has two syllables. Perhaps try "amazing."

"Were heroes in my family tree?" Machiavelli, perhaps?
Yes, classically/historically Italy was great. But today? Meh!
