I'm pretty sure this is fiction. It's very imaginative. I think there are paintings of Mary suckling Jesus. I'm not sure if she's totally naked, but obviously her breasts are naked within those paintings.
When you said a gasp came from the crowd, I was thinking the opposite that maybe they hated it. They're such things as shocked gasps So this was a happy gasp because they felt the painting was so unique and beautiful. I wonder how much money she got for that painting. But money wasn't the purpose of it. It was to be beautiful.
I think you're the same person who wrote a story about Pete and his fabulous invention that was the craze in the art world. But of course, we don't know what craze that was.

Thanks for the read and feedback. No, I'm not Pete or the guy who wrote the story. However, the gasp was meant to be negative because the nudity painted by a high school student shocked them. Only the priest saw the genuine beauty in the effort and thereby rewarded her with the win. Jesuits are known to be somewhat liberal when it comes to artful things.

Especially artful things that depict stories in the Bible I'm sure. That is what I thought it was at first gas of shock and ended nation, but then after the priest said it was the winter then I thought everybody liked it. I didn't realize that everybody else didn't like it.

At first, the audience was shocked by the nudity painted by a HS student. But after the priest approved all was good.

Hmm, a short and sweet tale. And, your main character did display courage, given the setting and work presented. I won't tell you that the final reveal was a big surprise, but it does fit with a flash ending.
