Congratulations on Winning...
Your poem was so beautifully written, and touched me deeply..
Yes, I have lost my first born, my oldest son, just two years ago....and indeed the waves of sadness do come...Yet, I have found that memories do help, and so when heavy hearted times come, and tears are shed, I think of all the wonderful times we shared, and allow the tears to flow..until I begin to smile again...
The loss of a child is forever, and so we learn, with God's help, to deal with it...Thanks for writing your poem, I'm going to keep a copy of it near by...I wish you well!
Warmly,
Victoria

Ciao mystery poet, you now have 14 votes.
There were some interesting entries but your topic was one I have not come across yet since I became a member of fanStory.
Dying is part of life but parents should pass away first. It's unnatural that they died before their parents.
It's not something parents expect, so it is harder to deal with when it happens.
Time usually helps us get over the pain, in this particular situation, I agree with you ..it doesn't.

Jesus said, "My peace I give to you." Thank you for this nice poem. I can relate to this. I lost a son so I know the score. Learning to allow Jesus to care sometimes is hard.

I agree, I don't think there can be anything worse than losing a child. And you convey the force of that loss well in your free rhyming verse. There is some excellent imagery, particularly in those first 4 lines. And the whole poem is imbued with emotion. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Yes - the sense of grief following the death of a child is powerfully conveyed here in these stanzas-'heartache signs a long term lease / while angels sigh'.

I have also heard that there is nothing worse than losing a child. I am blessed that I never had to feel this pain. Your poem expressed emotions well. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

I almost lost a brother once and that was bad enough

This poem is beautifully written. I can feel the heart-wrenching cry in every word. I believe the loss of one's child to be the hardest experience to live with. Your words spoke as though you suffered this yourself. I pray not.
