No one, except his own mother would cry for him. He was bad. Thank you for this nice review. Gretchen

Wow, I was recalling hoping to find out what will happen to Mathew.
So miss Lynn is huck's aunt? That's quite a twist.
I have to try to be patient lol
Well done, Gretchen

Oh, damn. You had to break it off! Now I can hardly wait until the second half, Gretchen. This is so well-crafted--the dialogue, the gestures, the personal thoughts of Huck, the action. It's all coming together in a very suspenseful piece of writing.
Mama has finally accepted that it has now come to this, and she can no longer fight it but must resign herself to what is going to happen. That seems very realistic as this story has reached the point of no return.
People might say that in real life that characters aren't as one-sided (or some would say cliched) as your portrayal of Daddy. That may be true, but I see nothing wrong with portraying a character in this way, especially in a novella where the story should be more concentrated than a lengthier novel.
Even in a novel, though, what would be the point to this story of showing that Daddy might have some redeeming quality? Big deal. It would never be redeeming enough to counteract the evil in him, so why bother showing it?
I'm going to miss this story when it is done!

I usually show the antagonist as a developed character, but Matthew never presented himself to me in such a manner. I really appreciate this awesome and detailed review. Gretchen

Saved this one for today in order to give you a six. Powerful and moving chapter, and I am sure Matthew will get what he deserves. His wife has not stood up to him, not even for her boys, and while I normally don't condone violence etc, there are times I make exceptions. Very well written, with much tension leading to a dramatic ending to follow.

Thank you, Wendy. I'm gonna be honest, I'll be glad when this story ends. It's very dark. But I had to write it. I'm glad you stuck with it. I really appreciate the wonderful review and the extra star. Gretchen

His wife knows what might happen to him. It's probably what she hoped for her father as well. Sadly, her life has been full of nothing but vicious men and then she had two boys. Her boys aren't really vicious. They just feel the need to make things right and taking their father out of the gene pool is the best thing they can do.

Thank you, Carol. You are one of the few that sympathize with the mother. I feel bad for her because she's kind of sold her own soul by sticking with Matthew. Thank you so much for this wonderful review. Gretchen

It looks like they are coming in for the kill. He deserves it but then then killers spend their lives in Jail or get the death penalty. In the south, it was a crime for a black and white person to marry but not for cousins. Huck and Miss Lynn were on half first cousins. President Roosevelt was married to his Eleanor who was his whole frist cousin so marrying wouldn't be illigal. Matthew should go to jail for raping a minor, but it looks like he about to get the death penalty from his sons. I anxious to read the rest.

Thank you, Beth. Not sure about the boys having to pay the piper for this. Since it's fiction I get to be judge and jury. Thank you do much for this awesome review and rating. Gretchen

This is absolutely great writing. I enjoyed reading. I don't normally like violence but this time, yes Matthew Strait has it coming. This post is perfect in every way.

I really just try to make the emotion more intense. I try not to write graphic violence, just hint at it. Thank you so much for this awesome review and the extra star. Gretchen

This was a pleasure to listen to, and it moves along very well when it is read aloud your structure is very good. I appreciate so much your writing as you are quite adapted when it comes to writing stories like this. Patricia.

OMG!! They are actually going to do it! Now the truth is out about Miss Lynn, poor Huck is devastated. And all the pent-up anger foaming away in Dewey's inside is ready to explode. Yes, I think Matthew is scared, if not now, he will soon be! I'm glad you are posting the next part early next week, I'll have a six to give you. Will it be the final part? It's been an incredible story, my friend, now to wait! Warmest hugs, my friend. Sandra xxx
