This was very funny. I'm glad you didn't stop the story in the middle. The final punch line was perfect. I like the overconfident beginning and the tongue-in-cheek ending. The back and forth of the bets kept the story interesting.

There's lots of personality in the writing here, lots of humor, and that drew us into the story. To me, it's a story of how sports and being a fan can become a wider part of your life, and color many aspects of your life. It can make relationships stronger, even be the basis for them. I recall becoming friends with someone in high school because we were both Yankee fans. estory

Well, it wasn't a great pay-off year for your gambling skills, but if I was a gambler, I'd bet it didn't affect your drinking too much either way. Thanks for sharing. I was just about to fly out for another two week journey and just happened to run across this post, which I'm glad I did.

I thought this was really entertaining to read. I must admit, golf bores the hell out of me, my Dad used to try and get me into it but there's nothing I find more boring. I really enjoyed reading your piece though and I thought you conveyed your personality and your friends really well. An excellent piece.
