A beautiful, memorable post and I agree with your question which is one that's always perplexed. But, having said that, if we allowed terrorists (and I include Putin here) to take control of our world, we could be in an even worst state. It's a difficult balance. But, as you say, the cost is astronomical and should be shared more equally (at least the UK is paying its way). So thank you for your strong contender! Good luck! Debbie

If you checked out the link I provided, the USA in 2023 made military sales for a whopping 238 BILLION dollars in Ukraine.

I am not for Putin but I can see clearly that he never had intentions to
rebuild the Soviet Union. That is the lie America spun to provoke a war that America hoped through sanctions (gas) would cripple Russia's military and economy.

America was hoping the impoverished Russian people would have then overthrown Putin's government. And Russia would have been divided into many smaller states and it would have ceased to be a superpower.

But the plan backfired, Putin found other countries willing to buy his gas and products.

Russia 's economy is booming , Brics is booming while the USA dollar in becoming more irrelevant on the global platform.

Our leaders have brought ruin to the Western world,
the Western culture is falling apart due to all that transgender crap.

Our leaders are interested more in power than in making life better for all.

Warfare is indeed a very profitable business in terms of manufacturing weapons, drones, bombs, tanks etc. Thank you for your very informed response.

You touched on a valuable truth. Despite all the talk about "Black lives matter" there is very little coverage for all the Black lives lost every day in Africa to famine, war and disease. The US does however provide a staggering amount of foreign aid to Africa, with $6 billion last year through USAID and probably another billion or so in direct government funding, and most of the arms sales from an economic perspective merely provide stability for international trade, which is in fact a necessary component for delivering that aid regardless of what political party happens to be running things. Thanks for this compelling write on an important subject.

    I thank you for sharing

That pic I found months ago really packs a punch.

Did you read the notes I provided below?

The US in 2023 spent a whooping 238 billion on foreign arms sales.

So that 6 billion you mentioned is a drop .

The US was handing over to Israel 3.5 billion every year before the war in Gaza broke out.

The US is now complicit in the war crimes the IDF and Netanyahu are committing every day in Gaza.

Nearly 15.000 Children have been killed in Gaza .

And now 2 million in Gaza are being starved while 150 trucks with food aid are lined up at the border with Egypt and are denied entrance by the IDF.

Much of the food is rotting on the truck.

Sorry Tempeste, just getting to responding now.

    Let's review these issues separately.

$238 billion is what exactly? Sales of US weapons? If so, it's a sale rather than foreign aid. The next question is, who's using those weapons and for what. US weapons being used to start wars is generally bad PR. The two big wars I'd probably look at first are in Ethiopia and Yemen. I know Palestine is a hot topic -- it's just that the war deaths there pale in comparison to other places less covered by the media. I get your point though if US weapons are being used in one war and not the other.

This is a well-crafted Septolet you have crafted with a heartbreaking theme and artwork. We should feed our hungry and help those in need. I hope this brilliant piece wins the contest and is seen by many.
God bless,
Steve

First off, thank you for taking the time to read my poem.

I appreciate the kind words.I found the picture some months ago and kept it. It packs a punch.

It's upsetting to know how much money our governments spend on warfare while so many innocent people are dying.

    Take care!

Your poem poignantly addresses the harsh realities of suffering and the often-overlooked lives affected by conflict, disease, and famine. The concise and impactful language effectively conveys the weight of the subject matter.

The poem is good, and follows the rules of the prompt. It's really disappointing how the US is profiting by selling military equipment/weapons to other countries to promote and encourage war, rather than working towards resolutions. There's really no reason we should be giving our weapons and stuff to other countries anyways; it should be reserved for our own armed forces defending our country, and our allies if they're fighting to protect others. But they shouldn't sell them off just to profit off of others killing each other.
