This haiku reminds me of my own dog in his last days when he painfully hobbled down the front steps of our house. Indeed, he was--like yours--a "true warrior." Good luck in the contest. Rod

Hi, Jane. Nice to meet you. I don't think we've interacted before.

This looks like a good entry for the contest. Good luck with that!!

That doesn't look like a dog in your image. It looks like a lion. Can you explain to me why you used a lion for a poem about an arthritic dog? Just for humor?

Animals have way of hiding pain. A cat always goes or tries to go somewhere to die, but they want to be alone. They don't like to die around people. My cat died in my house and he went to a spot that I never went to so I didn't think of looking for him there he hadn't come to see me for a while, so I figured something was wrong or that he was mad at me and I found him I thought he was just hiding, but then his head was so hard. I knew he was dead.

It's good that your dog can still get around. Do you give him Glucosamine? That's often prescribed by vets for animals with arthritis

The only thing I'm not clear on is if haiku's gonna have more than 17 syllables. Usually that's not allowed but the contest rules do say that there's not a syllable count and if they wanted to be 17 syllables or less, they should say so so since they didn't, I think your entry should be fine.

I enjoyed reading your poem

Good job. Thank you for sharing.
