Yes, Rod, You're right about voting.
Many went off to war, to fight for the right to remain a Democracy. My dad, was one of them.
And many fought a good fight too, right here, simply to have the right to vote.
These political contests have taught me a lesson, I won't forget.
First impressions can be so wrong.
As I read some other reviews, I could kick myself, for being so foolish about some people.
Politics brings out the truth, no matter how ugly it might seem...
Congratulations on the win!

Hi,
These words are so true. Everyone should always vote not matter what.
It is our duty because of those who fought for freedom and the right to vote.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.
Have a great day.

So true, Rod! I like the way your 5-7-5 delves deeper beneath the superficial layer of division in politics and remembers those who fought for this privilege. The only thing I would change is - right (to) vote. But this is a strong one. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. Indeed, politics color everything these days, but hopefully people will honor their right to vote. Rod

I think you're looking good in the polls:)

Yes, we should all vote; but sadly, we need a credible candidate. Out of 400 million people, it's scary to think that these are the best possibilities to run our country. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing, Ric. Sadly, I must agree with you. I thought both parties could have found a young, viable candidate as they had four years to do so. What surprises me more is that a third party candidate has not emerged. Rod

I'm with you, Rod. As the existing parties can't seem to agree or compromise for the good of the people, it seems a great time for an independent. But sadly, with it taking a billion dollars to successfully run, there might not be anyone who's patted enough backs or kissed enough butts. :-)

Great reminder, Rod! I think this is a turning point in our history. The two parties have switched ideologies before and it's changing again. It seems that the extreme conservative party which claim "Christian" values and yet upholds an immoral criminal as the man to represent them, should to some deep soul searching before God. Yes, I'm voting!

Thank you very much, lyenochka, for sharing and praising my poem. I definitely agree this is "a turning point in our history." Americans must not be lethargic or indifferent. They must vote! Rod

This is an important reminder, indeed. Still, this year I cannot fathom pulling a lever for either presidential candidate. I don't ever want it on my conscience that I was responsible for their ascent into power. I will still vote for State and local contenders, but not for the main attraction.

I do understand where you are coming from, Rachelle. What I fear is INDIFFERENCE, where people do not vote at all. Thank you for your review.
Comment from Mark D. R.
Rod,
You said it in the way IMHO most people feel. Another corollary is not voting for either candidate (regardless of your animosity for one candidate or party) is not the democratic way.
Our Armed Forces also fought for our liberties.

I do fear INDIFFERENCE, Mark. You hear after an election about the small percentage of people who voted. Many thanks for your review.

Absolutely, YES!!! The syllable count is spot on, and even more importantly, the message is conveyed beautifully. Best of luck in the contest--your work truly deserves to shine!
