It does my 81 year old heart good to know that someone's grandpa can still get it done. I have not been that active in many years. I have 3 great grand kids and we entertain each other conversationally, that is all I am capable of at this point.

Delightful!!! What a wonderful story about you and Jackson on your day off.
I remember similar days but my youngest grandson is now 24 so enjoy these days as much as you can. They grow up way too fast.

Blessings
Janet

What a wonderful story of your day spent with your grandson, Jackson. I admire your ability to keep up with him, especially in the heat, and running! Over a mile!!! I'll bet you were exhausted! And, if truth be told, he probably was, too!

Excellent day off, Poppa. Grandkids keep us young!

Take care,
Rhonda

That was truly heartwarming, John, and likely heart-stopping for many of us not in as good a physical condition as you seem to be. I applaud you for all that energy and for continuous RUNNING for over a mile. Well done, sir!

Grandkids are the greatest, aren't they? Kind of give you a new lease on life. Although I'm not so much into the physical activities with them anymore, we now enjoy a good game of chess together.

Sounds like a heaven-sent day! These kids can certainly keep us on our toes - and teach us a thing or two about what living is all about. So true about the easy relationship between black and white at that age. A pity that people grow away from that as they get older.
Loved your touches of humour and had a good chuckle at these two examples:
well you know how much six year-olds carry ... zero!
Climbing my front porch steps was challenging. All three of them.

One typo...
not a cloud in site (sight)
Great bit of writing, Poppa!

I'm so glad you had such a great fun with your wonderful grandson! You had a physically exhausting day. Hope you rested well that night! I hear you about not taking a picture without the mother's permission. It's a such a paranoid world these days. Thanks for sharing about the fun and glad you survived that heat!

thirty years since my kids [were] younger.

A very good story. My grandsons are in their twenties now, so those days have been gone for quite some time. The memories are still there and just as enjoyable. I have some minor comments, mostly distractions, that I thought I'd pass on. In this phrase, "they were sister", sister should be plural. "...he wouldn't get to far in front...", "to" should be "too". This sentence confused me at first, "My kind said stop but my heart told me to go for it." I think "kind" is a typo and should be "mind". "But it sure as heck wouldn't have been as much fun," The comma at the end should be a period. Good work. Brought back fond memories. Thanks for sharing it. Stay well.

This was really enjoyable and humorous, especially your conversational tone. I don't have grandchildren, so it was fun reading about your day with Jackson. Glad you didn't take pictures of that lady's daughters. Your story might have taken an unsavory turn. Thanks for sharing your fun day.

My "honey-do" list for this guy at the moment. My list was complete. (The first sentence is not a complete sentence. However, you can combine the two sentences as follows: My "honey-do list for this guy was complete.)

since my kids younger. (kids were younger)

My kind said stop (mind)
