I like this for two reasons...l like birds and fun children's poems. This has both. I love your words and picture and feel sure that a child would love it as well. Best of luck in the contest. :)

Don't worry about meter. Meter always confounds me. Just be a free spirit and let us enjoy your words. Children would probably love this colorful poem and hope it does well in the contest.

Thank you greatly, Jim. This was a project I started planning a long time ago and have not looked at it for years. This site contest felt perfect for working with it again. :-)

Wow, a photographer and a writer. I am jealous sweetie. I just won for "THe Elevator" First Place. I was gobsmacked! When last I looked it only had one vote! This is a cute picture and a sweet poem. Kiddies should love it. Karen

When I tried to write a kid one a while back it was dismal. But, I kept going back and trying. Then, I decided to find the animal picture first. Click!

A colorful parrot brighter than a carrot - that made me smile. I think a child would enjoy this fun little rhyme and the picture of Holly.

I only know how to embed YouTube videos, not audio only, so I can't help you. I'm not sure you can do that here.

Thanks for the smile this morning, and I received your book in the mail yesterday. Will begin reading it when I return from vacation next week.

Be well, my friend.

This is a cute entry for the Poem for a Child contest. this would make a good poem for a very young child as it contains rhymes and repetitive words. The picture and colors work well also. Good luck.

Ah, yes!! I could imagine a child first asking for this again and again, then later, reciting it out loud to herself. Very cute picture, too! That's one happy-looking bird! Good luck in the Poem for a Child contest!! xoxox

The parrot is actually a hand puppet. I spent a lot of time that year, 2004, going to garage sales looking for hand puppets and then photographing them in places around town. I was living in Joplin, MO at the time and working with a lot of children. I always appreciate your responses to my postings, Rachelle. XO :-)

Oh, wow!! What a WONDERFUL idea!! My daughter, when she was little, just adored hand puppets, so I bet your use of them with the little ones was a huge hit! xoxo

All the children I worked with were 3-5 years old. I even wrote a skit using the puppets. It was a long time ago. :-) XO

You might need more, or a little more even, but repeats are good, poetry and music are closely related, but there is a knack, but I'm sure a musician could work it out, well done, good luck, blessings Roy

I went back into the posting and added the definition of a ditty--a short and simple song. The parrot is actually a hand puppet and I collected a lot of them back in 2004 when I was working with a lot of children. I photographed all the puppets and wrote ditties for them. I had a ton of fun doing it. (Even though rhyming words in lyrics are not required to follow a specific meter, the tunes for children songs are usually short but catchy.) Blessings always, my friend.
