This contest entry is fun to read, and I can imagine children having a lot of fun with it. The repeating words and the rhyming scheme add to the fun. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you, Barbara. I'm glad you think children would have fun with it. I'll try it out on my 4-year-old great grandson when I see him.

This is a very nice entry for the Poem for a Child competition. I once wrote a book of children's poems called I Will Not Go To Bed and other poems of naughtiness. This reminded me of writing those. A child could easily relate to the feelings expressed in your poem. I like the rhymes and the rhythm along with the repetition. Nicely done!

Wonderful entry for the Poem For A Child contest. I think my grandson will like it. It has a good rhythm... like a song. Good luck!

Exactly what children love: a simple rhyme, lots of repetition, and a perky meter. You delivered everything necessary for the perfect children's poem, so I bet this will do great for you in the contest! Good luck at the polls!! xo

This is a cute poem for a child. It could be a song with a catchy little tune to go with it. There are so many things I child can think fo they don't want to do. Most children don't really want to be bad ane I think most of them try to be good.

Thank you, Beth, for your excellent review. I thought of a number of other things, too, but didn't find a good rhyming word for the last line. ; ) I don't want to brush my teeth, wash my face/hands, take a bath, take a nap, comb my hair. etc, etc, etc,

The perfect song to teach a child, It starts with things they dislike and would certainly love to sing and rhyme about and eases them into what things would make their lives better. I love the flow and the repeat of phrases.

Verna dear,
I can see my three boys jumping on their beds singing this song. I had a flash back with this precious poem and I suppose you know of this too, especially the going to bed stanza. Just adorable! Sending you my best today as always and my best wishes for the upcoming contest.

Yes, this will delight a child for sure. My nearly three-year-old grandson was particularly difficult one day and my daughter asked him, "What are you saying? What do you want?" and the answer came back very clearly, "Chocolate cake and ice-cream!" I'm not convinced he wants to try to be "real good" though, even though he knows he should. I enjoyed this fun and whimsical piece. Well done.
