Do I sense a new monster on the block.
I am totally loving the story but it does have some punctuation errors in it, so will need a good edit at some point.
I'm not going to drop stars for that though. I give you the points for the story. Which is excellent.

I think so, lol. Thank you for the wonderful review, Tim. I will go back and check for the edits. I'm dyslexic, which seems ironic I know.
God bless,
Steve

It seems that Officer not-so-nice is in for a surprise! Lol. At least she's a good actress. I'm really enjoying this story, I'm glad I stopped by. Well done, I think I have one more to read. :))Sandra x

This is a great story! Personally, I wouldn't use quotations when Doddie is thinking. Maybe italics? But the chapter was really good and the whole story is engaging. Thank you for sharing

Thank you, Erika, for this excellent review. I wasn't sure how to express her thoughts, so I was waiting to see if anyone could help in this area. You rock!

In my own writing I mostly write in first person so I don't even use italics. But if you would like to differentiate then that's the route I would go. I'm glad if you find it helpful :) Keep up the good work!

Thank you, I am dyslexic, and Rachelle has been a tremendous help in that department.
-
oh wow, writing must be difficult then. Do you voice dictate and then edit?
-
It can be, but I've forced myself to learn words by association. I prefer to continue writing this way. I have to edit more times than most, I overlook simple things most of the time.
It's a process, lol.
People at work tell me it's difficult to watch me type.

My husband and I have a friend that's dyslexic. Sometimes I have to get my husband to interpret his messages, since they grew up together. Other times I can read it fine.
-
LOL! Look, it took me three reads to see interpret. I see it as interrupt. Too many letters that look alike. Sometimes I get tickled, other times it's simply annoying.

Congrats on your 200th milestone, Steve! And what story we have here! I'm afraid I've only just come in but, clearly, Dodie Ray (love the name) has some super-powers and is also a fast thinker who doesn't take too kindly to being interrogated. Your horror story reads with great pace, intrigue and excellent dialogue, telling us already so much about the characters, not least that Dodie Ray hasn't finished her vendetta against men (or maybe anyone) yet. A wonderful write, thank you. Take care Debbie

I've been traveling for most of the last three weeks and about to head out again, but I'm sure glad I made it home long enough to see where your fine story is going. Thanks for sharing.

I'm on Dodie Rae's side. She is mysterious, suspenseful, and not to be crossed. I have no idea what all she is capable of, but will be continuing to read to find out. Great story. Congrats on your Milestone Post.

Thank you, LJ, for both the excellent review and Milestone Post. Dodie Rae has been an awesome journey so far, and I look forward to finding out what's next myself, lol. I have my ideas, but they change as I go.
I'll be putting the next chapter up Sunday.
God bless,
Steve

Hey, Steve. Based on Rachelle's interview with you, I decided to give this novel a try, and I'm glad I did. I'm very impressed so far, having gone back and read it from the beginning.
I loved the effect that potion (gas?) had on Dodie Rae in transforming her into a fearless, justice-seeking avenger against her abusive husband. With her reaction to the mean cop, it looks like he may be in target range too.
A great start to this part science-fiction story.
I am also a big Stephen King fan and have read most of his novels. What a superb writer. I even read his non-fiction book called On Writing from which I learned a lot. I am a fellow novelist and poet here on FS, and I'm currently posting a novel called Enough. My previous novel called What We See was largely about dyslexia and featured an inventor who creates a device which helps battle the disability of dyslexia.
I'm going to become a fan so that I can continue to be notified of this novel. Also, congratulations on your 200th post.
Just one question for you concerning chapter 2. I noticed that, unlike the other chapters, you wrote that one largely in present tense. Was there a particular reason for that?

Thank you for this excellent review, Jim. I read On Writing about five times, lol. Are you dyslexic? I will check this book out when I am able. When I was young, this wasn't diagnosed in school, so I had to learn by word association.
For some reason, I thought it would make a bigger impact in chapter two.
I'm excited you want to continue Dodie Rae's journey with me. Rachelle has been a godsend.
God bless,
Steve

I'm not dyslexic, but I've been fascinated by it ever since my wife, who was a first grade teacher, told me about a number of kids who were.
I had to do a lot of research for that story.
I'm a fellow southerner now, having lived in North Carolina for the last 10 years.

I struggle at work, but for the most part, it doesn't disrupt my daily life too much. However, I try to stay away from closed captions, lol. I can't read them fast enough to know what's going on.
-
Funny you should mention that. The invention in my story is a device that is a digital camera mounted on a pair of glasses that takes a picture of any printed text, whether it's in a book, on a TV or movie screen, or anywhere else, and sends it to a microprocessor chip that translates it into input for a speech synthesizer that sends the verbal translation to small speakers in the stems of the glasses that the wearer can hear. As soon as I finished writing the book, I found out this exact thing was invented in 2010. In my story, it's invented in 1987. It was tested out "reading" the English captions on a foreign film.
-
That is seriously cool! I haven't heard of it until now.

Excellent continuation of your story. Dodie Rae thought quickly and so far has fooled the police, with some unfinished with Officer Riley.
Will she pull it off? Will they buy her story?
We'll have to wait...
Cheers.

Hello, Steve,
I just reason your interview with Rachelle Allen and you and I have somethings in common. I dated Dean kuch for about a year before he died. He was an amazing poet and artist. I learned a lot from him. We wrote two haiku books and we published one on Amazon. We both loved horror, which takes me to our second thing in common, I LOVE Stephen King.
Now, about your chapter, I enjoyed the humor and suspense. You did a great job developing the characters and engaging plot. Well done.
