A short rant about why cyclists on the road drive me nuts.26 total reviews

This is an excellent, relatable entry for this particular writing contest. Cyclists think they own the road and are annoying as hell. I love the idea of them being in the slow lane with strollers, dogs and old folks, lol. This is a great rant.
Love this line.
And don't get me started with your environmentally conscious bullshit-have you ever heard of a Prius-you smug SOB!
God bless,
Steve

Thanks to you drawing attention to this piece that has been dormant for six months, I received a private message that this story has been recognized and added as an All Time Best Post! Thank you so much!

My pleasure, Lori. I enjoy looking through and finding pieces that need that extra review to get them where they deserve.

This is a rant that everyone wants to say but now we must all say we read it here. I do see the "optional" frame of mind the cyclist seems to be operating under. Thank goodness the automobile drivers do not, for the most part, think of the rules that way.

I agree that SOME cyclists are obnoxious for all the reasons you give. But why do you generalize? And who is US you refer to in your second sentence? Your most important point is that bikers should follow the Rules of the Road. But in our community, bikers are forbidden to drive on the sidewalks, especially in the heart of town. I am not sure what you are trying to say in your last sentence. Are you requesting bonafide bike lanes in every city or the omission of such?

Thanks for your review and questions. "us" refers to drivers in second sentence. I wasn?t being literal about them using sidewalks just trying to make a point. And yes, I am suggesting bike lanes a real and viable solution. As to why did I generalize, well I think that?s what you do in a rant. Or at least that?s what I felt like doing. I wasn?t trying to make a cogent argument with facts and stats. I just went off. Hope that clarifies my intentions. Thx, Lori

"To the Pesky Pedal Pushers" Yes, they do need to be more cautious of both motorists and pedestrians.
"You take up half the lane, but go half the speed," Ha!
"If you're going to ride on the road, then follow the rules of the road" Hear, hear!
"or else get on the sidewalk" Oh please God no--for the sake of the pedestrians, kids and wheelchair folk.
"A bike lane system in every city, no road left behind!" Seconded!
An excellent rant! Good luck in the contest!

As rants go, this is well written. IMO the environmental dig is verging on the specious. But all's fair in love and ranting!
I have to say your introductory salvo is great.
Back in the day, when I lived in London, I enjoyed Speakers Corner in Hyde Park where anyone could rant on any subject under the sun. Hecklers were/ are allowed so the speakers have to be verbally agile ranters.
Reading and reviewing entries to this contest took me back to those scenes.
Welcome to FanStory and best of luck with the Contest Committee!
Blessings, Julia

Congrats on your first milestone and, wow, what a great, relatable rant! This got better and better and I loved your second to last sentence which I think should have been your last to retain that final impact. Cyclists who go 2 abreast are also deserving of a rant! Well done to you and good luck! Debbie

These rants are so spot on, yt they are written so well that I have to laugh. I never thought I was one of those "road rage" people, but after reading all these rants.... I'm right there with all of you.

Easy lady! You haven't said a word about inconsiderate drivers and the real dangers they present. Autos kill hundreds of people during any time period. Every group has its inconsiderate members. Too, every state I know requires slower vehicles to move aside when trailing vehicles exceed a certain number. Responsible riders do that, as a courtesy and for their safety in case some nut case blows his stack. Bicycle riders I know are only too aware of impatient drivers. Slow down and smell the flowers. Surely you can appreciate a lawful individual enjoying his efforts for a purpose. PM me if you wish to continue the discussion. FYI, I still ride a few hundred miles a year at 87. Check out the website for The Royal Order of Octogenarian Cyclists for some dedicated enthusiasts. Last but, not least, welcome and best wishes in your writing efforts.

You present a very strong counter argument. And thanks for your generous 6 star review! Your bike record at 87, or any age, is really impressive. Thanks for welcoming to the group! Lori
