Wait! You make hats? And tutus? You are a one man show. And I love that you choreograph. That is true artistry to me. I've watched every episode of SYTYCD at least twice and was thrilled to see one of the old choreographers at a restaurant a few years ago.
But back to your story. It resonated with me and I love how you poke fun at yourself. I was in Bue Bye Birdie with a lady that I taught in seventh grade. We still keep in touch. It's such a special bond.
Hope you have a spectacular Fourth.

And listen to this: this past weekend I was in Long Island at the WEDDING of a former student!! A boy, no less!! I met him when he was ten years old, and we just immediately clicked. He's now a (MARRIED!!) software engineer for Amazon!

Thank you for this lovely review. You're always such a day-brightener. xoxox

Still had another 6 for you, Rachelle. This was an adorable story that was so much fun to read. You two, indeed, sound like kindred spirits, and I'm sure you are much richer for having known her.

Your writing is just so descriptive and amusing, with expressions like "melted me like a Hershey bar between graham crackers and roasted marshmallows." It sounds like you helped make the party very special for her and made her life as rich as she seems to have made yours. - Jim

"It has nothing to do with money
True Wealth" Oho, that's what only the wealthy say. It has EVERYTHING to do with money! And yes, it CAN buy happiness--and family and friends and...
"why are you wearing that towel on your head?" Ha! Kids can be so cruel--from brutal honesty.
"Because they think girls in short dresses want SEX!" Jezoz, they're getting so much wiser so much earlier!
Glad y'all had such fun. Hope the divorce party--in a couple of years--will be just as swell...Kidding!

This was a gloriously happy tale--the kind we would all love to be able to tell. I never was a Fashionista. In fact my delightful children told me I should be arrested by the fashion police! And they were boys for pete's sake. We all have our failings I suppose. B ack to packing. Karen

This was a great read! I'm taking an online personal essay writing class at The Center for Creative Writing and what we are learning is show, don't tell. And you're really good at that. Very hyperspecific in your details. Have you taken any classes? I love the one Im in. I take a group class as well as one on one coaching.

Good on you, Lori!! You've jumped into this writing thing with both feet it sounds like, and you're super enthusiastic about it (and good AT it, as well. I love your first milestone piece!)

Yes, I've taken many courses through the years and, like you, really enjoyed them. FS is a great choice for learning and growing as a writer. I hope you love it here. I'm going to fan you so that I will never miss a story you post! xo

I am so jealous and amazed at the deep connections you form with students. I was an educator once, but the situation was one where I never saw them after class or out of school. This kind of full engagement is something to admire and to certainly stress for others working with kids, especially over a long period.

This is the nicest review, Bill; thank you, sincerely. I do feel so lucky with that permutation of this career. I appreciate your understanding how special it is; that means a lot. xo

This is a fun and bright story. Your descriptions are vivid. The emotions in the story come through well. I'm glad you got to surprise your former student with such an elaborate gift.

This is lovely (although I almost didn't recognize you in the photo since you weren't wearing leopard-print). It's wonderful knowing that you've made a lasting impression on someone's life. That happened with my husband when he was a teacher, as one of his students went into teaching because of his example.

I had no idea you were such a Martha Stewart. I knew you could sing, dance, play piano, write and teach, but I never knew you could sew. Sadly, that's one thing I never learned to do. I can cook and clean (and act and write), but I'm lucky I can sew on a button. Oh well!

That aside, great job with your story, and I'm glad you had such a nice experience to inspire it.

And thank YOU for the really nice review. I have pictures of the hats, but I don't have the computer skills to post them. Mrs. KT tried to guide me, but I just couldn't get it to work. *sigh*
