There's no way out! You have to say it. Thank you, Jim, for explaining this prompt. I have to admit it foxed me. But you clarified it all in a wonderful story with great jokes. In short, as usual, you ticked all the boxes. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Excellent, very interesting use of the writing prompt, Jim. Turning it into a Vaudeville punchline was a stroke of genius. I also really like your Joe E. Brown twist at the end. I particularly recall Joe E. Brown from the final line of "Some Like It Hot" where, when Jack Lemmon's female alter-ego, Daphne, reveals her true identity, Brown's response is about as far from "Say it ain't so, Joe," as you can get. This is very cute and very funny, and I wish you luck in the contest.

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt entry with us. I enjoyed reading. I've seen a few of the old Vaudeville acts on TV. I don't really do that type of humor so I doubt I would have been a fan.

This entry needs more reviews but I fear without rewards being offered it is doomed to fail. I like it. I got it. Joe E. Brown -r.i.p. - had that schtick of his down pat. This whole piece reeks of Rodney D. who never got the respect he never deserved. Last thing, your profile line... I'm a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a fig newton would read better if mystery and enigma change places. Tom H.- but u gnu that.

Hi Jim,
Nice entry for the "Say It Ain't So, Joe" writing prompt. I enjoyed it. It brought back some wonderful slapstick comedy duos to mind... like George Burns and Gracie Allen, Abbott & Costello, The Three Stooges, The Marx Brothers, Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz, and Lucille Ball & Vivian Vance.
Lots of slapstick in TV shows of the 50s and 60s, for example "The Honeymooners/Jackie Gleason & Audrey Meadows/ Jackie Gleason & Art Carney", "The Dick van Dyke Show", "Bewitched", "F Troop", "Three's Company/John Ritter & Joyce Dewitt/ John Ritter & Suzanne Somers/John Ritter & Richard Kline" and "All in the Family/ Carroll O'Connor & Jean Stapleton/ Carroll O'Connor & Rob Reiner/Carroll O'Connor & Sherman Hemsley". The most laughs in the shortest time!
But slapstick is still used in comedy today... "Seinfeld", "The Big Bang Theory", "Young Sheldon", "Mr. Bean", and "Doc Martin" to name just a few.
There's nothing wrong with good humor. Laughing is healthy. But I have to admit, slapstick goes a long way. In short bursts, it's wonderful. But a steady diet?... I wouldn't recommend.
Nicely penned! Thanks for the memories! Charlie Chaplin is a bit before my time. I was born in 1950.
Cheers,
Kimbob

"Say What, Joe?" I said MY NAME AIN'T JOE!
" It's cause they know..." 'cause--apostrophe needed.
"I told my partner I'm fed up with it all." Either put quotes around "I'm fed...all" or change to I was fed up with it all.
"If I let go, she goes shopping" Haha! Now, that was funny!
""okay, Lets get started"!!!"" Capitalize the 'O' in okay, lowercase 'l' in let's, apostrophe needed after the 't', and the three exclamation marks should come right after 'started'.
Humorous piece here. Good luck in the contest!

Say it ain't so, Joe! That could easily get on one's pip. Slapstick comics were never my cup of tea, but in this story I got to see how being the one-liner guy could be worse than having to watch 'em!

Vaudeville and slapstick comedy, the days of Laurel and Hardy, and all those other silent but deadly shows that started our history to show business were great until something else took it's place. It's sad when we look back and see what we've lost by always wanting to replace the past with something better. Your story was quite humorous and enjoyable to read. Good luck in the contest.

Well done.
I should have seen it coming, but I didn't. Good work.
And excellent writing.
The harmonica piece was a rip! Thank you. I wonder how many were faking?
Best wishes.
