Hi Tom,
I can certainly relate to you on some fronts, unfortunately. For awhile I was taking Flo-max to help with the enlarged prostate, but I didn't like the side affects, so I quit taking it. I'm up at least three times a night, maybe more, but I just accept it I guess. I'm not going to go do the roto-rooter thing. I'm going to enjoy sex for as long as I can, and if I die of prostate cancer, so be it. I took something for high cholesterol, but it seems that it made my arthritis worse, so I got off that as well. I take a pill for high blood pressure and two for a low thyroid, but other than that, I just opt for vitamins. Getting old sure is fun isn't it?
Have a blessed day.

My saying use to be "this getting old is getting old" but now "getting old is even older." I can see the day when even that will need require change to getting older has gotten oldest.

I gave up all my prescriptions years ago. I had Oxy and Fentanyl for my back, I was told I should go on a morphine drip. I took Celebrex for my spasms. I forget what they gave me for my nerve damage. Bladder medication, high cholesterol, at times, low blood pressure at other times. Another one for my gut, as I had a lot of diarrhea/constipation. I read the horror story that was my side effects for each med, gave them up. I take a Cranberry capsule for my bladder, aspirin for my back and heart, Tylenol for pain, magnesium and calcium for bones, And to old ladies multivitamins a day. I am doing better than ever. I will be going to the new doctor soon to find out how bad off I am soon. Fun times ahead. Good writing there pal. :-)

Good luck. I applaud your courage.

I am not complaining, only explaining. Hold the applause. Plenty people have health issues. most of us are seniors.
But I appreciate the kind thought. Karen

Hi, Tom.
Kudos to you for not only knowing the name of your meds, but correctly identifying what they are for!
This is very well written, with a winsome tone, but not a whine.
It does seem prescriptions increase proportional to age!
Many of us over 65 can relate all too well, my friend.
This feels like a good prospect for a fine contest showing.
Nice to read your work again!

Sweet, innocent and charming all in one. Yep. That could be me with a dose of cranky as my wrapper. Thanks for your review.

You are welcome!

This story, Nir Van Nah, sounds like what my wife and I do and take daily. With kidney disease, dialysis. heart attack, stroke, pulmonary stress, and arthritis, we are circling the drain.

Ouch. That is a litany of ailments more dire than my 12 operations including my three knees, three rotor cuffs, an Achilles, back, bypass, two elbows and a double hernia

I think you "win", Tom

This has tongue-in-cheek funny references, which might not be quite as funny if I stop to think I am getting closer to that age, too. Your best audience will probably also be of that age range. Usually I catch myself telling my mother that I don't think much of her decorating her room with pill bottles. Your rant reminds me to be more understanding.

The human body is stuck together by some sort of cosmic glue and which deteriorates the older they get. Pharmaceuticals seemingly regenerates the substance seemingly preventing parts from falling off or failing completely. 🙄

I loved this, Tom. So funny, especially since it hits close to home and I can identify with it. Younger folks may not understand until they attain a certain age. I certainly didn't when I was younger and used to laugh about the number of pills my parents took, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and I've continued the tradition as I slog toward old age. Like you say, better than the alternative, I guess.

Pills above and pills below. Pills to the left and pills to the right. It's a plight that's required I'm told to keep things ticking. ALways a better day hearing what you have to say.

Not seventy-five yet, but I agree things go somewhat wrong after the first sixty or so years. Not taking as many pills as your narrator, but that's because my doctor perceived cleverly that I don't LIKE pills. Well done on being funny about a not-so-funny situation.

Is there another choice but to smile and move on even if a challenge to rise up?
Comment from GWHARGIS
This was funny. Not to you, of course, but to a woman who works as a pharmacy tech, it's hysterical. I'm very proud of you for knowing what you're taking and why you're taking it. Where I work, it's a one in five chance that they know the names and nature of their meds. Great job and good luck. Gretchen

That's common. Just watch increased bruising.

LOL! I like how you state the facts and the effects of what it takes to stay alive. Past generations didn't have these drugs to extend their lives past 50, but are we really better off than they were? It makes one ponder how golden these years really are.

They are indeed golden years but my gold days are plated not 24 karats or is that carats? Thanks for the read and review.

You seem sad in this piece, Tom. I'm glad you can write...probably more health inducing than any medication.
Couple comments:
Girls who've squeezed a watermelon sized object out of their bodies (aka babies) do that dripping thing WAY earlier in life. A friend and I who go to the gym together, decided to add jump roping to our routine. I went first and peed myself at jump 18. She laughed at me, then peed herself at 21. We removed jump roping from our routine.
pair of man breasts.
The proper Latin term for this is *Moobs*
Your welcome. :-)
Atorvastatin
I'm not a doctor, obviously, but my doctor would tell you to get away as fast as you can from statins. 1. They do remove cholesterol from the body, but primarily in the brain. The brain is mostly fat and requires cholesterol to work. Statins lead to early dementia. 2. There is not one single study that shows cholesterol in the body is connected to heart attacks. The vast majority of people who have heart attacks have normal cholesterol. This is a pharmaceutical company snow job. Maybe worth a little research if you're curious.
Now you've got me plotting about what brilliant things I could write about for this very interesting, non 575 prompt!

Not sad. A realist fer sur. This getting old first got old, then older and is quickly approaching oldest faster than a cross-Atlantic SST flight.
