Congratulations on your first milestone post and attempting a contest from day one. This is an excellent contest entry, and I enjoyed reading. I could feel Chet's struggle with the necessary decisions. Good luck with the contest.

Hi Barbara
Thank you for the positive review and star rating for my story. This one is a bit of a sci-fi mind bend and hopefully touching as well. I'm glad you enjoyed it. it was fun to write. This story has been published in my latest collection.

Congrats on your first post! It's a good one! You do a wonderful job of sharing Chet's inner turmoil. I enjoyed watching as he confronts life-altering decisions amidst grief and financial strain. Your writing is excellent. You share the emotional landscape of aging, loss, and the enduring bonds that define us so well in this story. Excellent use of dialogue as well. I enjoyed it!

Thank you so much for this review. I put a lot into this story, I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it. I got to thinking about mine and my wife's coming older years and this is what I came up with.

Well, that was a book, in itself. Fascinating and weird.
Chet was a strange man -- to me, anyway. He cared for his family members; wanted to do the right thing, each time, trying to help his wife and not burden his daughter, but each time he tried to end his life, he didn't, until the pods. The pods were odd (oddpods, ha), but they did add a touch of fantasy. You asked the question re: them, friend or foe. All I can say is he died in one, but that was his choice, so...I guess, friend.
Good story.
