Congratulations for winning the free verse competition. It is so well deserved. It made me cry. The best poem I've read in a very long time. Fabulously well chosen artwork. Jen.

This poem is so emotional. Lots of people would like to ignore the fact that something like this did and still does happen. This poem refuses to be ignored. Thanks for sharing and good luck on your writing endeavors.

Hi Kay,
This is a sad story of the worst side of discrimination and uncaring for the poor. But also ends it hope that it may end. It shows some still fight for justice and are brave enough to seek it.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Have a great weekend.
Joan

A poignant free verse poem about one woman's sad plea for help and the disdain shown her by some, but the help given by one who reached out his hand to her. Sadly too many women and girls still suffer. Well written, Kay.
cheers,
valda

Yes it is self explanatory .This is a story that is happening again and again .I am glad that you have given the story a positive ending by introducing the police ..

Another graphic account of the shameful events that took place during the days of early settlement. Much has now changed, though sadly much has not. I hope the committee treat this entry with the respect it deserves.

Kay, what a story you tell here! And the passion and anger conveyed within your poem gives additional impact to an already disturbing account. This elderly woman risks the dreadful consequences of racist segregation to venture on to the white man's streets in order to get help for her people. The pace and urgency of your poem, together with the excellent dialogue that you incorporate here make this a very memorable read. An excellent post revealing the kind of oppression suffered by these indigenous people.
Thank you so much for sharing. Good luck in the contest! Debbie

Good Morning Debbie, Many thanks for reading, glad you were intrigued. These things still happen today. Our people fight back but the police are corrupt, many blacks have died in custody. Love, Kay xx

So much damage has been done, so much cruelty and injustice. The mockery of her pleading for help is inexcusable. I am glad the policeman was helpful and sympathetic. Well done.

You told us quite a story with your free verse. It sounds like it was based on a real story. I'm glad that the police was able to protect and bring the criminals to justice. And that brave woman risked all to get help!
Best wishes in the contest!

Hello Lena, These incidents happen today and many blacks die in custody. Like America, always problems with black and white. America stole the Africans and the British took our land and murdered the owners. Not a pretty story. Love, Kay. XX
