Mrs. Collette assaulted him, which could lose her the post office, and she set a fire to the docotors house and admitted it in front of everyone. She needs to be arrested. Now. I am het up! Karen

My whole body is tight with goosebumps, so scared that Artie was dead. He still could die, and all because of that evil woman. She is the one that needs to be taught a lesson! I'm so glad Heddy's mother believed her in the end,

Well, Gretchen, this has to be one of your best chapters, the emotion, worry, the hatred, the fear, it's all there for us to see and feel, the words litterally jumped from the page, grabbing my senses and twisting them with the tension that fills this whole page! This is written to perfection. I'll wait for my heart to settle down before I read the next part. Does Artie die? OMG!!!

Superb, my friend. You should be proud of this one. Okay, I have to go and see what happens. So good to be back reading your story. :)) Sandra xxx

I'm glad you're back. Missed reading about George and co. I'm happy you liked this. I've been thinking about this chapter since I started this. I knew there was going to be a fire and Heddy and her family were going to battle it out with their neighbors. I thank you so much for this. Gretchen

Sometimes in life many of us have taken a hand and just wanted to feel a squeeze. Or if we haven't, it's likely that at some point we will be looking for a sign of life. Thanks for sharing.

Hooray for Heddy! Loving your story. I do not see any improvements and am lost in the story. I hope this all has a happy ending, I am emotionally involved now and would break my heart if it didn't! Esther

I hope you don't get your heart broken. Lol. I'd hate to be the cause. Thank you for jumping straight into the story. Gretchen

Hello Gretchen,
of course this is six worthy, but I'm all dry gal. That hateful bitch needs to be put away. She's nuttier than a fruit cake. I wonder what the Doctor is going to think when he realizes that she burned his house down. Do you have any idea what the law might have been back then for arson, especially if it involved a perceived enemy of the state? I just hate to see Mrs. Collette get away with a crime. I can't wait to read the next chapter gal. Well done!
Blessings,
Tom

Mrs Collette would have been an excellent guard in one of those nazi death camps, hatred is an awful thing, it is a consuming fire, I can't remember too many people that had that sense of lawlessness in their heart, wow, she really is an unbridled hatred machine, blessings Roy

She would have indeed. She's kind of a playground bully. No real power other than intimidation and sneak attacks. She may just have sealed her fate this time. Thank you for this excellent review. Gretchen

I hate, Mrs. Collette. She is a horrible person. I hope Artie is going to be okay. Poor Heddy and Lester, they are going to feel responsible, although is not their fault. I'm happy Heddy's mom belived her.

Well done, thank you for posting this chapter so fast. I look forward to the next one.

Hugs

Marival

The drama and the emotion in this post is perfect. I really hope Artie is going to be all right. I am hoping Heddy's parents take him into their home until he heals. Again, no six left, but extremely deserving.

This is a very well written chapter, and it was a pleasure to listen to as it flows very well when it is read aloud. I wish you the very best with all of your writing and I wish you the best as you work through presenting this book. Patricia.

How do you do it, Gretchen? This is brilliant! An absolute tear-jerker. Heddy's dialogue with her mother before they leave the house is immensely stirring and profound. You've created this wonderful character in Heddy, old beyond her years but always credible because of her Grandmother in the background. Mrs Collette can be a bit OTT but I think she needs to be for you to portray the gulf between peace and war. She, I feel, is more of a caricature (slightly Dickensian). And what a fine ending in that last sentence, saying so much, so simply. Well done! Debbie

I can usually make my darker characters a little more human and have spurts of kindness as well, unless they are ignorant. Ignorance and fear are two things that turn ugly. Especially in bad times. I think Mrs. Collette felt her most powerful at that moment. That Armageddon was of her creation. But what do I know. Lol. Thank you for this well written review. Gretchen
