Very pretty! I love roses, but they kinda do what they want. It's as though they have a mind of their own. I do believe the rose is the perfect representation of life. To get to the beauty, you have to get past the thorns. And some of those rose bushes have wicked thorns!!
Great job!

I enjoyed reading your short poem, gansach, especially since it ends in a positive way...It must be the way with some rose bushes, I've been in my house for over thirty years, and the large rose bush in the front doesn't bloom ever year. Sometimes its the first to bloom in the spring, sometimes not...I often wondered why, but its so pretty when it does...The roses are all white...I wonder if the color has something to do with it...
Thanks for sharing this with us, I'm glad you are seeing full blooms. All the best to you!
Warmly,
Victoria

Thank you so much! I did some research and the dormant roses are called Old Garden Roses --I think that's such a lovely name, it conjures pictures of beautiful ancient places. Glad you have one, too!

That's very interesting, I never thought to look up why my roses didn't bloom every year. At least they have a name now.
"Old Garden Rose"...
It makes them special...Thanks for the information, it makes us two of a kind...lol
Take Care!
Warmly,
Victoria

The title attracted me first, then the odd little story in the verse. The author note was the icing on the cake. I know roses do better some years than others, but I hadn't heard of this variation. My pink and white Pierre de Ronstart (spelling may be wrong) always bloom, but often they "ball". This year they actually opened! Dublin Bay, on the other hand, blooms every year.

Thank you so much. My mother loved roses and grew many different kinds, occasionally entered them in flower shows. Hers were the type that bloomed every season. I'd never heard of dormant roses, but they are called Old Garden Roses and there are several types. Mine is a climber and, as a matter of fact, this year it has climbed right over to mingle with my morning glorys. It does have wicked thorns.

An excellent entry for the Short Poem writing prompt. I lovely poem with an interesting story attached to it. I like how it bloomed an extra time during the year of Covid. How nice. Thank you for sharing.

I enjoyed your poem and the colorful presentation. The prickly and thorny rosebush is hardly appreciated in its barren times but when it blooms, it brings fragrance to the whole garden. It's a good metaphor for seasons even in some human lives. Best wishes in the contest!

Hi
This looks like a good entry for the contest. Good luck with that!!
Red roses, eh? Most people's favorite. I had pink roses mostly in my yard. Some of them were actually miniature roses growing and bunches.
I didn't know that roses go dormant. But I seem to remember that our rosebush didn't give any roses for a couple years and we thought something was wrong with it. Lol that's how much I know about roses.
Did you know that Rose plants have aphids.? They destroy the leaves of the rose plant. But they get kidnapped and milked by ants who want the milk for their larva
Even if they're dislodged by water from a hose, for example, the ants go round them up and put them back on the Rose plant
I found that to be a fascinating fact about ants. Aphids are their cows.
Well written. I enjoyed reading it.
Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much! I know about aphids and I know lady bugs eat them, but the ant herders are news o me. How fascinating! Thanks for the info and your kind review.

Rose bushes are great aren't they but yes you have to watch for the thorns, ouch! They are beautiful and dangerous at the same time :-) I wish you all the best going forward.
