What a cute story, Jim. It took me a few times to read it, but then it all fell together. It was fun. I liked the song that went with it. I don't know where you came across it, but it was happy and fun,
Hugs,
Rhonda

I was just recently wondering and having fun with experimenting how best to write a French accent. I absolutely loved your Italian - a total inspiration. Laughed out loud couple of times when I read this piece and the ending killed me. Fantastic work, Jim.

Being in the mid-west, I can't say I could make out every word, but I caught the idea, and it is very funny. Him being from a home with an Italian mother, I understand how he didn't get to say much.

I struggle to understand languages other than English, whether it's Italian, Spanish, German, French, or whatever. And even when it's English written with an foreign twist. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I would love to have your imagination and versatility, Jim! Yet another of your wonderful posts filled with humour, delightful dialogue and linguistic misunderstanding. I'm still wondering about another meaning for 'shoes'? And the only one I come up with is 'school.' But I love the interpretation of Connecticut as etiquette. And the whole silly but characterful theme of that memorable song! A great entry for the club! Well done! Debbie

Great song! I've heard "Shaddap you face" from Italian friends back in the 60s, but never heard the song.
The dialect was thick, but it had to be, considering the story. (Let no one tell you otherwise.)
Best wishes.

Hi, Jim. Good luck in the club contest
I can't be the judge of your grammar became it is on purpose that you use bad grammar. That is fine. I just can't look for mistakes.
I'm trying to figure out the significance of shoes. It was quite the conversation piece in the latter half of the story. I'm sorry I'm so dense. It could be one of those things that really doesn't matter. It's just there for background. Or maybe it's just means sure.
Well, written story, I enjoyed reading it
Good job. Thank you for sharing.

So why do Italians put that -a- after all their English words?? This was a humorous story that I enjoyed greatly.
I'm not sure exactly why, but it brought to mind a pop song by an Italian singer that I used to love. After reading your story I even went to YouTube to look it up because I hadn't heard it in awhile.
Adriano Celentano - Prisencolinensinainciusol
If you're not familiar with it, it's a song about what English sounds like to Italians. So it's total gibberish but does sound somewhat English. A really fun song.
Sorry to go off on that on your review...but your story did that to me! : -)

So he was meaning to say "Sure" when he said shoes? A humorous play with accents and dialogue as they try to establish connection and have a real conversation. Well done.

well, that was pretty funny. I bet you had a lot of fun writing it.
I've just re-read it and I have to admit, which I hate to do, that I don't get the shoes bit. I've been trying to think what it could sound like that was mistaken for shoes, but I've drawn a blank.
Please, if you would, enlighten me.
Thank you,
Katharine
