Hysterical and using common sense. You use what works. I guess I should get some stencils. I can't draw a straight line. When I brought home my clay mouse no one could guess what it was. I can sew, and write stories but oil painting or even spraying is beyond me. Good storytelling. Karen

Hello Karen,
I have a hard time drawing a straight line too, even with a ruler. You wouldn't believe the number of times I've gone to cut a sheet of plywood, with a line drawn on it, and somehow I magically end up screwing up the cut, which of course means it won't fit right. Some of my projects look like a ten year old worked on them. At least you can write gal. Thanks for the great review.
Blessings,
Tom

good commentary, and smart solution, That is so typical of government, which I am sick of, as you know.
I've decided to stay in FS until my membership's up in Nov. I apologized to Tom. Seems I just don't get the point system, no matter how many pumps I buy, or how many times he explains it, so I'm just writing for fun. I just got my first (I think) All Time Best - yay - and here you are with another one! Congratulations! You are on a role!

Hello Katharine,
thanks so much for the great review. Congratulations on the ATB award! It can be a little confusing with the whole points, award system on FS. I think you just need to write a headline that initially grabs the attention of the audience, keeping in mind that though a number of us are of a conservative mindset, there are also a number of us who aren't. I try to stay away from too controversial topics. Either you're preaching to the choir, or you're trying to convince people who don't want to be convinced. Fortunately, I've been blessed with a good sense of humor, and it's come in handy for me.
Have a blessed day my friend.

yep. you're right. writing political stuff is a waste of time and money. It's been my experience that there are more liberals than conservatives on this site, so am going to try for "daily life humor", adding a little imagination to spice things up a bit :)

Hi Tom, your story is hilarious. A large pothole means nothing, but take out some street paint, and the government stands to attention. Interesting.
Just sharing ... there was a town that had its share of potholes. The people got tired of waiting for them to be repaired, and putting up with what it was doing to their cars, so they filled in the potholes themselves. That was frown upon. The filled-in holes were dug out, refilled, and resurfaced. I guess they didn't like that ordinary citizen were filling in the potholes themselves and saving the township money. If township are given money, they must spend it, or else in the following year's budget, they will not get it again. The yin and yang of government spending.
I especially liked:
When the government, that our taxes funds, refuse to do their job, why waste time complaining to city hall? Grab some florescent paint and go play Picasso.
(Oh What Fun!!!)
Your story is well done; well told, and you always manage to make me smile. For that, I thank you. Margaret

Hello Margaret,
thanks so much for the wonderful review and comments gal. I've thought of filling in some of the potholes myself as well. Even if the job isn't professional, at least the problem is fixed, at least temporarily. I believe it was Dolly in England who mentioned that her daughter had been reimbursed three times so far for tires that were damaged by potholes. They're really dangerous, as some people go into the oncoming lane in order to avoid them.
Have a blessed evening gal.

With that many people in the house no doubt those ten days have "been hectic."
"pot holes" should be potholes.
Seems it takes forever for roadwork to be completed and repairs made.
The painted penises bit was hysterical.
Especially in a tourist trap area can not see the city not getting right on covering that special artwork up straight away.

Hi Brett,
thanks so much for the great and thoughtful review. I understand that there are a lot of streets and thus many potholes to take care of, but when it's their job, and the money is there, just do what they're being paid to do. We can't allow our cities to deteriorate a little bit at a time.
Have a blessed day.

Dang, Tom, I am so personally offended by this story...I just can not quit laughing. Me being offended has nothing to do with the art, but the fact that government officials shirked their responsibility. The citizens of Ketchikan are brilliant. Great story! Terry.

Hello Terry,
I'm so glad you enjoyed this post. It seemed to resonate with a number of folks. I guess letting potholes slide is a nationwide problem that really should be taken more seriously. When one considers the amount of taxes the various governments collect, you have to wonder where the money goes. I so appreciate the exceptional review and the six, thank you!
Have a blessed day.

I can't imagine that anyone would be offended by this. It seems like a clever and unique way to deal with a very annoying problem. I got a laugh out of this. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Hi Jessi,
thanks so much for the exceptional review and comments. It was a unique way to deal with the problem, though it's probably not the ideal way. However, it certainly got the attention of city hall, which was the original intent.
Have a blessed evening gal.

Tom, this is hilarious. I do not see getting offended. What a creative solution to a problem. It got city hall attention and the problem solved. I am afraid in other towns it would be treated as vandalism and just paint over the "artwork."
Thank you for the smile.
Best wishes
Mary

Hi Mary,
thanks so much for the exceptional review and comments gal. Someone else mentioned as well that the city could have just painted over the artwork and ignored the potholes, but of course that would have just exacerbated the issue. I'm glad they dealt with it. I understand that city governments are overwhelmed with projects, but part of their job is to take care of roads and streets, and when money is collected from the residents, there needs to be an accounting of it.
Have a blessed evening gal. I hope you and your husband are doing well.

I found this both humorous and effective. It certainly is a very creative way to get results, but probably not the best thing to have been painted for all to see. In any event, it worked.

Hello Thesis,
I agree with you on both counts actually. I would prefer that people just do their jobs without having to go to extremes to get results, but at times, we need to do something to make our voices heard. The Boston Tea Party comes to mind. Thanks so much for the honest and heartfelt review.
Have a blessed day.

I think this is hilarious! I'm glad you chose to post it. If the government has been given plenty of time to rectify a problem yet continue to ignore it, I think this qualifies as a creative motivation.
So here's my question...there is a huge pothole at the end of my driveway. I've been asking my husband to patch it for months...do you think it would work the same way if I chose to similarly decorate it?

Hello Julie,
I'm so glad you enjoyed this post. I don't know your husband, so I don't know what kind of reaction he might have if you chose to go this route, but it might work. You might have to start small, and perhaps put his name beside the artwork with an arrow pointing to it, and if that doesn't get his attention, keep going bigger until it can't be ignored. Good luck with your problem. Let me know if you decide to heed my advice and the result.
Have a blessed day gal.

Only in Alaska would the culprits paint lighthouses. In the lower 48 they plant trees. Alaskans have much more creativity I decided during our trip there. I still remember going through a community along the train line where everyone there waved at us and we were told it was too bad we missed fourth of July as the populous mooned everyone on the train.

Hello Carol,
Well, I guess you learn something new every day. I live here and I didn't realize that happens, though I'm not in the least bit surprised. The trip up to Denali is breathtaking. I can only say because we took the trip in the car last year. The train is more than I would spend, but I've heard the trip is worth it. Thanks so much for the exceptional review gal.
Have a blessed evening.

Apparently you want to past the area between Fairbanks and Takitna on the fourth of July.

Ah, that makes sense. Talkeetna is a kind of wild place. Sort of like hippy meets rabid environmentalist with a touch of isolationist thrown in. I've been there several times. Its an interesting place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

It seemed a little like the movie Northern Exposure when we stayed for 2 days. A neighbor was thrilled to tell me how two people were murdered in the cabin we were staying in. It was over some gold and a claim.
-
Oh my,
its always surprising how much emotion something like money can generate. Of course gold claims were highly coveted and it wouldn't be the first time someone died because of claim jumping.
