I know what mullet are. I couldn't help myself. Completely took me back to Isle of Hope, where I grew up. The sound their tails make when they break the surface! Ahh, childhood... and calamine lotion. I could SMELL this story!
Nice work!

I didn't think it was. I assumed it was a life-tale. (tail). (see what I did there?)

What a wonderful slice of life story this is. I can darn near smell the fish! I like the straightforward writing style here, exactly what is needed for a story of this nature. I hope at some point you follow this up with what you and Pat thought up to pay the boys back. Great job.

Thank you for your very nice comments on my story. Yes, that was a night to remember.
I didn't write a story about our revenge, but what we did was invite them to supper and had things we knew they didn't like - liver, brussels sprouts and broccoli. Their faces were so funny. They laughed and were good sports, and took us out to dinner!

Well, I, for one, cannot WAIT for the sequel to THIS horrible-yet-mesmerizing story!! I want to be sure those awful boys get some retribution!
You were seriously (1) BRAVE [out-of-the-way location...in the dark...stinky...mosquitos...tiny rowboat...the list goes on] and (2) TOUGH [you never cried "UNCLE!!!!!" or beat those cretins senseless, either.]
You DEFINITELY gave me a "sense of place" with this gem...as in, I'm feeling a need to go take a shower to wash off the fish stench, MYSELF!!!!!
Great work and good luck. I bet I'll be seeing this in the Winner's Circle...well, you know, once I get out of the shower!

you are just too cute Miss Rachelle! Thanks for the neat review!
What we did to get them back was find out foods they hated and asked them to dinner at our house. We had calves liver, okra and brussels sprouts, and their expressions were priceless! Then we made them take us out to eat. Ha!

Oh, very clever!!

An excellent entry for the Sense of Place Short Story writing prompt. I would have jumped out of boat lol. Very humorous story. I am anxious to read what you cam up with to get them back! Good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much.
Well, we invited them to supper, and served calves liver, okra and brussels sprouts, and you should have seen their faces! Then we got them to take us out to eat! Have to say, they were good sports.

I see how evil breeds evil. Those boys gave you something that night that you needed to share or reciprocate. Getting even would be my direction. Eating a gallon of rocky road while they were being
"Reciprocated " would be an added pleasure. Noooo, you just made ME evil! lol Funny? Well written and a bit mysterious and thrilling there when you didn't know where you were going. GREAT read. I'm out of sixes. Sorry. Here's a virtual SIX and a virtual hug for the thriller. Lol

Thank you, Eean. I appreciate the virtual six and your neat comments.
One FS member asked what we did to get them back. We asked them to supper and fixed calves liver, okra and sprussel sprouts. Their expressions were hysterical. They ended up being good sports and took us out to eat! ha!

Ohhh you vexed them with your company. lol?

Mullet? The fish? Attracted to light? Never knew that. Does it work on Stripers, too. At least, I can get some bait for other species if not. Good luck.

I don't know about Stripers. You might go out at night with a lantern and see :)

This was nice to read and it have a person wondering how they got paid back for what they did.
Sometimes just ignoring someone hurts even more, in other words "brush it off" and let the immature person or people go on.
You did described the place- swampy, dark and humid.
I liked your font and how you used punctuation marks words.

thank you. The sisters weren't hurt. They had a prank pulled on them, and it's natural for young people to want to "get even."
I agree with you, though, when someone hurts you, just ignore it, if you can. I wanted to award more points, but I paid money 3 times to move up the ladder, and it didn't budge. Sorry.

I think this was a great "sense of place short story." I had never heard of "mullet jumping" either. I would have fallen for it, too. You did a great job with your descriptions. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

thanks, Jessi! I paid 3 times to move up places so the reader would get more points, but it didn't budge. Do not understand it. anyway, I did try. Thanks for your neat review and good wishes!

We were talking about these two boys, Butch and Sonny, friends of ours who lived on the island, hoping they'd call and take us skiing. They called, but instead of water skiing, they asked us to double date that night. They were very mysterious about where we were going. "Dress casual," they said.
Strong writing overall.

thanks, but you just copy my words, and get credit for a review? I didn't know Tom would allow that. Guess he does. However, I appreciate the 5. I bought 3 pumps and still didn't move up the ladder of points!
