Only your own opinion matters. It is obvious you love working with Sunny to bring joy to people. Of course, I am also conservative. I have a dog who (frankly) is terrified of people and a barker. She would rather bite them than comfort. Esther

No, you are not being too conservative. You are true to your values, and whilst you may have some doubts about your approach, please do not.

I have similar view. I have had 4 dogs in my lifetime, and I do not recall at any time when I dressed them up. They were their own dog. They had their own characteristics. All of them provided me with wonderful memories.
Sunny no doubt has provided such memories to you and will continue to do so.
Take care, and be confident, you have taken the correct road. Have a wonderful day.
Cheers
Barry.

Thank you very much Barry. That's such an encouraging review, and I am glad most people seem to agree with me. I really respect a dog just for being a dog, and I prefer not to "humanise" him. A lovely review, and I am very appreciative.

I agree with you. A dog is a dog. Dressing them up isn't for the dog's benefit, unless it's to keep them warm.
Your dog is enough. YOU are enough. The work you do is great.
As for gender, as I understand, it is a decision for individuals to make for themselves. Your dog, being a dog, not a human, isn't going to make that decision and he isn't going to care if you do. What he wants is love, food and walks.
Well done on a thoughtful write.

I agree with you; dogs should be allowed to be what and who they are. My dog would be most unhappy if I dressed her in silly clothes. I feel the same about my cats. They would not only be unhappy, they would also get revenge.

My Granddaughters sometimes dress up their dog and take pictures of him, it is all in good fun and they never embarrass him in public. People love dressing up their dogs and I did see a couple of dogs in Lichfield that had been painted (with special harmless paint) to look like tigers or zebras! But I do understand what you are saying here Wendy, dogs are dogs and we need to respect them as animals and not make them human! As long as it is harmless fun and the dog is not uncomfortable by being dressed or too hot, then it is just a bit of fun. I enjoyed your post, love Dolly x

I don't think you are being too conservative in this Wendy. To me it does sound like they are dressing up their dogs, instead of playing dolls. I would be with you, a dog is a dog and being a therapy dog is very special in itself. Good luck with this group, Wendy hopefully you and Sunny can continue to do your own thing.
cheers,
Valda

Thank you so much, Valda, for this very supportive and encouraging review. Yes, dogs can do their loving work just by being themselves.

Hello Wendy,
I feel bad for dogs who get dressed up. Sometimes they appear to be humiliated. My daughter used to want to dress up my dog for special occasions, like she did for her dog. I usually refused to allow it. Rigby didn't like it, and I didn't either. In the winter, the folks that have sled dogs put booties on their feet to keep the snow from getting in the hair between their toes, but other than that, all the dogs are au-natural. They frequently have frost on their whiskers from breathing in the cold air, but they love to run and you can see it in their faces. Thanks for sharing this gal. Keep going against the "woke" mob. Stand for your values, you're a shining light in a dark place.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Yes, those sled dogs grow really thick hair. Good they can wear little boots for that extreme cold though, and that?s for their comfort and well-being. I think it?s best to let dogs be themselves in our situation, I don?t see any value in dressing them up, and we won?t be changing. Natural is good. Many thanks for your super review and thoughtful response.

I don't think you're being too conservative. I think you are seeing to Sunny's best interests, and that's admirable. I don't dress up my dogs, either, although I did have a sweatshirt for one of my dogs when it was too cold for her to do her business outside. This was a well-written piece, and I always enjoy reading about Sunny. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thank you so much Jessi for lovely review and support. A coat for the cold weather is fine for dogs but to me dogs in tutus etc is a bit over the top.
    Thanks again.

Oh wow, Wendy, what a lovely story. I didn't know you did dog therapy. What a wonderful way to make people's days better, or even their lives. For a while, I had a puppy I trained to be an emotional support animal. I took her to my mother's nursing home and she went around doing her thing. She was very loving, but she's half husky, and eventually, her stubbornness took her out of the job. She was still sweet, but got to where she wanted to do the husky thing and pull rather that go where I wanted her to. She's still stubborn, lol.
I'm glad you've been such an integral part of this program. I, also, never dressed Storm up. Most of the elderly people just wanted to love and touch her. Stick to your guns!!

Hugs,
Rhonda

Thanks so much, Rhonda. Dogs are just so wonderfully intuitive re people? needs. They do just want to love and touch them. Sunny and I will just continue as we are, and do what comes naturally. Lovely review.

I wouldn't dress my dogs, either. They wouldn't like it. They're not therapy dogs, mind you, but Jester does his bit. There's a gentleman who I used to see walking a dog. He's non-verbal, and the last few times I've seen him he's been in one of those go-go-mobiles. He smiles and reaches out when he sees my dogs, and Jester is happy to move close for some attention. The helper with him today appears to be able to interpret what he says, and he was asking how old was Jester, and saying he likes girl dogs.
Jester is a boy dog (with the suitcase to prove it) but he's a friendly little chap.
I was interested to read your piece. I used to be allowed to take Tess (our then-dog) to the nursing home to see Mum, and I think dogs make wonderful visitors. My others aren't as forthcoming as Jester but the sight of them seems to cheer a lot of people. I'm not surprised- they cheer me!

I think they are all very intuitive about meeting others? needs. Just by being themselves. Jester is doing unofficial therapy dog work. Thanks so much for your lovely review. I appreciate it a lot.
