Bob, all the negative things you paint about a woman seems like the man should have left a long time ago. As I see it, many people, are so used to their better-halves that they often fall in a trap where you can't live with them and you can't live without them. I think, often times, especially when one gets older, remaining together may often be because of the utility value (loneliness included) of being with each other.

I am so glad you have a loved one by your side for the last 40 years.

But then, a smile or a mere touch, reminds us that love still remains to make one's life complete.

Best for the contest.

A very unique love poem. Your love was equal amounts of fear and love. Well as long as you were happy , I guess the fear was worth it.

Good entry for the A poem about a Woman contest.

This poem, This Poem is About a Woman, presented with five AABB-rhymed quatrains, tells the story of a forty-year connection that has been "endured" by the poet. The theme seems to place her in a fearsome position, but we see ultimately that it is a good relationship.

That is a lovely comment. And yes, I am a lucky man. I greatly appreciate your saying 'my love shines through.' Maybe I should correct that. I think you confused live with fear.

Brilliant AABB writing. I loved your poem that is so true.
You can now buy an electronic button to press that says, "yes, dear." If it gives peace then say it. It's better than arguments and times of no speak. My parents were always arguing and shouting. One reason I left home!

Brilliant is not a word I hear often. I really think silence accompanied by a smile delivers a much more potent message than any angry outburst. And I agree with your words. Everything is better than 'arguments and no speak.'

This poem about a woman (your wife) is hilarious, and I hope is just a joke.
However, it sounds as though the two of you are perfect for each other if you've managed to remain married forty years. Congrats! I most love your final line..."She made my life complete." Best wishes in the contest.

Glad you read the message I intended. We haven't remained married all that time. We separated, divorced and then remarried around a decade later.

It was intended as fun and prior to posting it had to pass the Editor's scrutiny. And like many politicians, editors can be influenced. And it only cost fifty dollars and a smack in the mouth.

Glad you read it as it was intended. Jeanette had the right of veto. but she okayed it posting without any change. I do however have bruises for the one she rejected.

This is hilarious Bob, I love the humour and how you keep the peace with your wife by agreeing with her as life is just not worth the arguments that ensue if you disagree! Ha ha ha, a fun post and a great entry for the contest, loved the rhymes and the sentiments, love Dolly x

Dolly, your comments are always welcome. I can now confess to the truth. When I wrote this, I had no intention to post it. Then, after showing it to the boss, she urged me to post it. So, it's her fault.
