This story reminds me of all those lovely souls I have met over time who have avoided the purchase of a hearing aid in an attempt to avoid the 'rumour' that using a hearing aid is a reminder that seniority is either nigh or ever present (of course youth is preferable to most people).
Your character enters the scene grateful and happy to have finally 'given in' just like their grandfather, but on account of the benefits, admitting the need seems to have been worth it. The new hearing aid was revealed to open up a new world for Harry, the grandfather. The mention of his profession made me wonder what he did - possibly the forces? I'm thinking this as the D Day services are on my mind.
This was a nice, heart warming read with a sensible message to all those who have been considering plodding on in a world of muted sound. Don't do it! There is a way forward :-)

Thank you, Kelly. Grandpa was a joiner as opposed to a carpenter Building site noises in the 1950's and 1960's were a nightmare

It was one of Mum's favourite stories. That Grandpa was the favourite opf the two. Glad you enjoyed the memory

Seems all my friends are having to get hearing aids these days, and I may have to, also, as I've been sick and the only lasting symptom is I can't hear worth a hoot, except for constant ringing in my ears.
I love that you named your hearing aid after your grandfather. That's funny. However, I have a question. I've been looking at the picture, which seems to be a water skier in the foreground, and I don't get the connection. What am I missing here?

My Grandpa was called Harry. He had to give in, too. His profession caused his deafness. The day he received it, he was bothered by a scratching sound and mentioned it to his specialist,
