Two children meet their step-mother.9 total reviews

Giana's definitely got her priorities right! A tiny insight into a character that every fairy tale in the book demonises.
This is also a nice flash as the title gives nothing away about whether their stepmother is nice or not, only later that she is shy. Could it have been the childrens' father's choice to do the sightseeing tour, when all Giana really wanted to do was have fun with the youngsters?
Either way, it's a 'sweet' ending :-)

Thank you very much, Kelly, for your kind praise of my shortie. Giana appears to be the kind of step-mother any kid would want. Rod

Well I think your step-mother is a winner! Not that I fully understand the Italian but I think I can guess ( notes would have been handy). Your flash fiction is well structured with excellent dialogue to build a family scenario. Well done and good luck! Debbie

I think she is too, Debbie. Thank you for sharing and praising my shortie. In my Notes I translated the final line of dialog.

Just when I felt like they were not going to give her a chance she goes and gets them ice cream. It sounds like they might have a place to start to get to know each other after all.

Lovely short story. I guess ice cream is one of the universal languages of love. It certainly broke the ice. Well written. Best wishes for the contest.

spumoni... sparkling wine? I think Google Translate let me down. I enjoyed this snapshot of a blooming family relationship. It seems positive an that's pleasing to read. So much flash is dark, because that makes more impact.

Thank you, Sallyo. I am very pleased you enjoyed my story. The kids are lucky to have Giana. I only wish I had more words to tell you what happened next.

Three months after Dad remarried, he "imported" my sister Becky and me to Rome where they were living. They met us at the airport.
I bet living in Rome was fascinating.

I enjoyed this short piece of flash fiction. You told the story in very few words, which is impressive. You made me like the stepmother, and I was prepared to dislike her. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thank you, jessi. I am so pleased you like the step-mother. That was my intent.

This story, New Discoveries, has the proper word count and finds that moment when the introduction of a sweet dessert by a new family member was the key to unlocking a new adventure. Neat.

Now who could say no to spumoni...the best way to top off an Italian dinner party....the wine can come later. Great 100 word flash. Good luck in the contest.
