Hi Shirley,
This shows the sad plight of a movie/tv star at the end of her life. Being forgotten in the end.
It seems the orphan had a full life. But did she really find love past the stardom?
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a nice day.
Congrats on placing third in the contest.
Joan

Hello Anon,
This is an excellent piece given the constraints of the form.
I like that you have avoided the classic flash "BOO!" or "Aha!" twists and have opted to leave your reader with something a little more thoughtful.
There's a very clear story too, which only adds to the piece and the skill with which you have executed it.
I wish you well with your contest and your continued writing.
cheers

phill

Ciao mystery poet, you now have 4 votes.

It is very sad .. stars make us laugh, dream, and cry with their art, be it acting or singing...but many artists then go "home" to a cold, empty hotel room or an empty villa.

Actors and pop stars bring their fans much joy but are often very lonely.

This one-hundred-word story, The Star, has the proper word count and shows a life that seems to have had all the ups and downs. The one thing seemingly lacking, is another person to show love.

True to life. We all go through that, maybe at different societal levels, but the experience is relatively the same. I've learned to love situations and objects of art to pass my time. I ran into this writing thing by accident. I like it. It's just fun. But, you know you have talent. I bet you have genius when challenged. Get challenged.

Very good! WE can dream and often long for certain things, but in the end it might not be what we actually wanted.... Beautiful illustration and the perfect words to match. Good luck in the contest.

This cycle was heartbreaking, and you managed to tell it in very few words! You did a good job telling this story. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
