Oh wow, this is for sure a virtual Ten with a capital T. How strange that I am writing a poem at the moment, not about this, but telling God I am sorry for the times I am not patient with the unanswered prayers and asking for more tolerance with people, etc,.... but I love having another Christian friend, but please know that if you don't see me for a while, I will try to come back and look you up as I do treasure our friendship. I might just need a little break. So thank you for this lovely and wonderful treasure of one of the greatest gifts He has given us, The Lord's Prayer. BEAUTIFUL~

Thanks Debi. My involvement with FS is sporadic, so I understand. I treasure my Christian sisters. Esther

Why do you say, "Abba?" I assume it is synonymous with Father or God, but why not say, God? I'm just curious. I hope you don't mind. I should probably be familiar with the word, Abba, but alas, I am not.
You are certainly devout and I'm sure a very good person. Good for you!

Thanks Katherine for reading. Abba means Daddy. It is Hebrew. And no, I am far from devout (nor Jewish). I have been writing my life story. Wrote some uncomfortable chapters which reminded me once again how much I have been forgiven. Tried to write a "dear God" letter for a contest but it came out like a thanks to a pastor. Thought of the verses where Jesus taught his disciples to pray and the entry is my thoughts on the Lord's prayer. Esther

This prayer, The Lord's Prayer, does all it should. It praises God for all He has done, does, and will do. Recognizes all we can do and will do to build the Kingdom. Finally, sends out an open invitation for all hearts and minds to seek His face.

Fabulously presented. Thank you.
The disciples asking Jesus how they should pray presented a blueprint for all Christendom. We should hear this type of teaching regularly. Great job.

This is a lovely devotion breaking down excactly what the Lord's prayer means to the writer. We should probably all do the same thing from time to time and really consider what it is we are saying in our prayers, Thanks for sharing.

This is a good explanation of the Lord's Prayer. It is accurate for nearly all Protestant faiths. I also like that you have changed the line about temptation, as have the Catholics and my Protestant church. Even as I kid, I could not understand why God would lead me into temptation. Thank you for this thoughtful writing.

The Lord's Prayer is the foundation and the condensed but magnanimous expression of God's will and complete petition of His instructions for a pure and godly awareness of God and His desire for us, the centre is His felllowship with us, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thank you for sharing this personal devotion with us. I am betting that many people recite this prayer and don't really think about the meaning. I have been guilty of this when I've been in a hurry. Of course, that's probably when I needed to take time and really think about it.

Made me think about it when I wrote a Dear God letter for the contest. Realized I needed to learn to pray...Mostly I do the "Help" kind of prayers.

Hi, Esther

"He tells many parables that start with the kingdom of heaven is like...which I can only imagine. ". Something needs to change here

"The thinking part of my mind giving deference to You"

Not sure if this was supposed to be a phrase. It follows a period.

in what language is God called Abba?

This was very interesting to me because I am a newbie at Christianity and it helps me understand things through your eyes.

I guess we each make our own bed. We could make it sloppily or we can make it crisply. That is where our free will comes in.

To be honest, I can't make a bed crisply. I am too disabled for that

Thank you so much for posting this

Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Oh boy. The kingdom of heaven. Jesus has so many stories about what it is like. I will think on how to change it to be more easily understood. Scriptures are in Matthew 1:24-53: treasure in a field, pearl of great price, mustard seed becoming the great tree, wheat and tares, leaven, sower and his seed, net cast into the sea pulling out all the fish.
Without freely choosing Him our relationship would be slavery instead of adopted children.
Abba means Father or Daddy in Hebrew. Esther

It is sometimes salutary to examine the true meaning of the words in prayers that have almost become mantras by virtue of constant repetition. I found your expansion here both interesting and illuminating.

I wrote it after trying to write a Dear God letter. I am so used to just thinking my prayers. Started a train of thought: Jesus did teach us how to pray. My brother just corrected me. I wrote we were all God's children but the intent was to write "God is not willing that any should perish". So I guess I need to rethink my wording. Esther
