Gypsy Blue Rose,
Congrats on winning the Teach Me Something Contest. this is a perfect entry for the contest. It is cultural, historical, educational and a comprehensive explanation of a Haiku and its origin. You are the expert in Japanese poetry here on Fanstory and this is an excellent example of your knowledge and understanding of the Japanese Haiku poetry form.
All the best,
Eugene

Congratulations on your contest win for this piece. Very interesting and informative for those of us who are fairly new to Haiku but want to learn to write it in the proper way. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your detailed knowledge that lets even a strictly prose guy understand the intricacies of haiku and it's differences from 5-7-5. Outstanding post. And congratulations on your very deserved contest win!
Thanks for sharing.

The wealth of specific helpful information here is a gift. Thanks for sharing this. I especially like the plain, spaced format as it was easy to see and read a large amount of information.
Well done! Congratulations!

Ciao ! You now have 9 votes.
I love the 5-7-5 format or less because I love the challenge to say something of significance in very few syllables.
I found your entry instructive and will check out the links provided.

Your "teach me something" post was very informative indeed! I have come to the conclusion that I will never be able to write a true haiku. :)
Thank you so much for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thanks for posting this. It was a very good lesson on how to write Haiku poetry. You included historical aspects, identified the differences between Japanese and American Haiku, and provided examples of the differences. Thank you.

I thought this was a blind contest? We appreciate the lesson on how to write the Haiku from someone who only writes Haiku and I shall keep this post for future reference. A very helpful lesson Gypsy, love Dolly x x x

Hi. I have written dozens of haiku's, then probably 10 or so Sankus I was loosely aware of their requirements. But you have given a lot more information here which I appreciate because I might write some in the future.
Think you have written a wonderful article. Maybe you should follow it up with teaching Senku. I know the difference between a haiku and a senku. I think senku Is more about the material world than the ethereal world of nature
Good luck in the contest
Great job thank you for sharing

Thank you very much, pamusart.
I don't know anything about sanku so I won't teach it but thank you, I will check it out.
Comment from Julie Helms
This very clearly explained and I think an important article for Fanstory where the 575 and haiku do seem to get used interchangeably. You show clearly the differences.
Thank you!
