This is a hard contest to write for. That is the problem with contests. They force compliance with rules over writing with substance.
I want to say that your contest entry is better than most. Good luck with that
Why is there a feeling of dread as one draws near?
All of your other lines in the poem reference pleasant positive things. So, I was not expecting the word dread to be in the last line. But maybe it's a good surprise. Like maybe you're on a walk and going further into the woods or big.
