That's a sad reality. If we are raised to only please other people (especially true of the geisha whose job is to please men), it's easy to lose sight of one's own identity.

I like the delicate ease of the words. Your line, "doesn't know who is the Geisha behind the fan,"to me could refer to both the men she is pleasing, and also herself.
I read a book on Geisha that was given to me by a friend about forty year ago. I think it was called, 'The life of a Geisha.' Very interesting read.

The geisha girls are amazingly we trained much like the ladies in English society who went to ladies deportment classes and learnt about setting tables and and contional manners etc in the west, beautifully written Gypsy, blessings Roy
