This was one of the bedtime stories last night with a bit of editing on the last paragraph..Lol. Charlie and Oscar wanted to know what happened then.. what could I say except 'let's just wait and see if there are more tales of Jimmy and Fuggs':)
All the best Jill.

I am surprised?and delighted?to have any work read as a bedtime story. I will see if I can dream up further adventures for Jimmy and Fuggs. Many thanks! Rod

lol. Well done. No I guess the new teacher won't miss him as he spends his time learning about aerodynamics with his kite. Best wishes for the contest.

This was a charming description of a lazy day off for a kid and his puppy. I enjoyed reading this very much. You used your words well and painted quite a picture with your descriptions. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Sounds like this kid is going to grow up skipping a good amount of school. He is chill and taking the time to enjoy himself while spending time with his best friend.

You might be right, Mia. But you have to admit he had his priorities right that particular day. Thanks for sharing my story.

This one-hundred-word story, Better Things to Do, has the proper word count and finds the first-day school skipper enjoying the freedom of one more sunny day.

The Ghosts of Creepy Hollow. The boy and his dog are no longer on the ground but are instead kite-flying spirits; Spirits can do that to an individual when they are in heaven looking down at the school.

What is your interpretation of your story? Were they not spirits?
reply by the author on 21-May-2024
No, they are not spirits. They are a boy, his dog, and a kite on a hill playing hooky from school.

A lovely, evocative scene complementing that delightful image! I had the feeling he should have been somewhere else but, hey, on such a warm and gently breezy day, he's forgiven for wanting to make the most of it. All nicely and neatly fitting in to that economic word prompt. Well done and good luck! Debbie

I thought this was great. I love how you show childhood freedom in your writing. I could see Jimmy's moment of relaxation with Fuggs. The mention of the school nearby hints that maybe Jimmy should be at school! I really enjoyed watching Jimmy enjoy flying a kite and enjoying a sandwich with his beloved pet. Nicely done - with so few words especially!

This is an interesting idea. You took the picture and detailed a possible story that may have inspired it. And, yes what you have feels pretty accurate. Good idea. This may set your entry apart from the rest.

Good luck.

An excellent entry for the Flash 100 writing prompt. Great story with such a nostalgic feel. Between the story and the picture posted, it could have come from my old grammar school book, "Fun with Dick and Jane". Skipping school was always a good time! Good luck.
