Interesting approach to the contest, as you're actually using the term "speak of the devil" literally, but I definitely enjoyed your poem. You used the abab cdcd rhyme scheme well, and the rhymes are well chosen to tell your story and lay out your questions.

I liked the challenge of "Are you ready to bet on the odds?" What I liked best, though, was your sneaking in the word "me" and then changing it to "him," letting the reader know it's the devil himself suggesting you speak of him and invite him in, in the same way literature suggests a vampire can't enter a home unless invited.

Nice job! Good luck in the contest.

Speak of the Devil! Invite me him in!

I'm so glad you enjoyed this poem! I thought it'd be fun to use the idiom literally, especially because I've been listening to 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' a lot recently and was inspired. The parts you liked were some of my favorites as well - glad the meaning came through alright!

I like your inspiration. More, I like that, while you were inspired by it, you still let your poem take its own course. Good job all around!

Well devil, how are you. Scorning the Gods isn't really scary for me because I'm a monotheist. You, of course scorning the one true God would pose a problem worth confronting. Of course being the devil already know where that's gonna getcha. What are meals like there? Seems I'll never make the visit. Best wishes...Eean

Thank you for the kind wishes Eean! I am doing great, you must simply come for a visit - we have everything you could ever want here! The meals are delectable, nothing like the tasteless stuff they serve up in the 'holy realm.'
