Well, I'm sorry, I didn't go the journal route, I went with my reactions to the story.
My first thought was that it must be Utopia, the perfect place, but then I thought of something ridiculous, and I had to chuckle though it isn't really funny: that when the Van Gogh was found, it was by rebellious young people who hadn't the faintest idea who he was or its value, and they didn't care, and as they were the few who had survived, with no elders to enlighten them, they burned it.
Now that is surely not what you had in mind, but it was what popped into my mind when I read it.

Yes, I wonder how many of the treasures and artwork beauty of today would be lost if 99,99% of lives would be lost if there was a gigantic destruction of humankind, beautifully written, blessings Roy
