I certainly hope your grandson wasn't hurt in the shootings. I have no idea what makes people do things like this. Unchecked mental illness is the top contributor. The easy access to guns. Such a happy place turned into a nightmare. Gretchen

It was my son and he had to attend therapy for a year. He is an artist so he used drawings to process the horrible nightmare. Some of his friends were shot. My son hid in a bathroom, thank God! His drawings were kids shot in the head with brains and blood everywhere. Anyway... he will never forget it.

School shooting need to stop. Well, to be honest all shooting need to stop. I don't believe taking guns is the problem. I think maybe enforcing the gun rules we have may help. If somebody wants to murder they will find a way.

I am so sorry to hear of your son's ordeal. Although 35 years ago, it must still be vivid in his mind. I don't really know what to say.
This statistic is staggering-
From 2000 to 2020 school years, there were 1,375 school shootings at public and private elementary and secondary schools,
I'll keep you all in my prayers...

It's such an awful thing that these school shootings continue. I keep praying for safety for our schools. Thank you for reminding us. I know it's a shocking memory that you always keep and now our grandchildren have to have school shooting drills. So sad.

Thank you very much, big sister. Yes, we need gun laws and better mental health. Criminals should not buy guns but that is hard to control. But we should make it harder.

Oh how horrifying for you as a mother, and for him to have to deal with such a thing. We try to protect our children and they should be safe in school, but not since this kind of behavior is going on. Never before, so why in the last how many years? Is it because one started it and the rest are copy cats or is it because the world has become so evil that it seems like nothing to kill, especially children.
I am saddened that this has to be something that has stayed with your family all these years, and yet how do you ever forget this without God in your life to help make you feel some comfort? God Bless you and yours for the fear that must have been a part of you for so long, if not still. Thank you for sharing this thought-provoking and heartfelt travesty with us in your senryu. Thank you very much, Debi. It was very hard for me and for my son. He was in therapy and drew a lot of horrible drawings of kids brains and blood and other stuff. He is an artist so it helped him a lot.
