This is fabulous poetry. To me, poems should always evoke some kind of feeling/emotion as well as mental pictures, and your words do exactly that for me. I especially loved the closing...
The casket lay within plain sight.
Reality began to bite.
I had a feeling that was scary.
In my heart I prayed to Mary.
"Do not let my courage fail.
Let me hide beneath your veil."

...Indeed! Mother Mary's intercedes when we call upon her!

A charmingly written verse in rhyming couplets on Rose's funeral. I understand that this is true so I send my condolences. I think you cleverly crafted this short poem into a story that takes the reader through the details of the service, finally focusing on yourself in the final 5 lines. Those lines are really quite moving in their succinctness and the reason I find this to be the best entry. Well done and good luck! Debbie

A very convincing entry for the Poetry about this month contest - a funeral setting where the sense of loss seeps through and the poet struggles to work through the moment.

Your poem captures the somber atmosphere of a funeral with heartfelt emotion. I like how you included the quote at the end. That brings it all together. This is well written. The rhyme scheme and rhythm flow smoothly. Your poem offers a moving reflection on the complexities of loss and faith.

A beautiful poem about the funeral of a loved one. The words flow well and the rhyming is perfect. Nothing like creating a poem to calm your feelings

There is something so haunting about funerals. You captured the experience beautifully in your writing. There is an indescribable tension that is often present, aside a tense formality that wouldn't be present other than in a service such as that. Great work!

There is a gentleness within this piece. A lot was communicated in a few lines, including letting us know that Rose was a grandmother. I was left wondering what the scary feeling was, and relieved the person had faith in Mary and could turn to her for comfort.
'Everything was apropos' tells us about the setting and I think it gives a hint about Rose's character when she was alive.
