Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Now, Heddy, is my kind of gal, one that takes the initiative and gets the action started. While I'm sitting there wishing I had, but afraid that she I did, would she like it. :-) Thanks for sharing.

Lol. I'm afraid my first kiss was one I planted on an unsuspecting boy. Not sure if he liked it or not. Lol. Thank you. Gretchen

That's how it worked back then when you were young. A kiss was commitment. Of course the first time a boy grabbed me and kissed me. I punched him in the nose. I was six. Good writing. Karen

Awww! That was so sweet! Now Heddy is smiling, she has a real boyfriend. It will break her heart when Lester has to go home. But for now, she's happy. I love this story, Gretchen, and all your children's stories. They are true to life, and so enjoyable. Warmest hugs, Sandra xx

Willis seems to be in relatively good shape, and if he has nightmares, he isn't waking Heddy. Lester seems so impressed with the kiss that I wonder if there really is a Lucille. Very well-done chapter with a lot of heart.

Thank you, Carol. I think perhaps, Lester was more smitten with Lucille than she with him. Lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Gretchen

Ain't love grand Gretchen? I saw lovers kissing on a garden bench yesterday and I had to smile. Your story is progressing nicely and Heddy and Lester are getting closer as their friendship turns into something more. Willis is glad to enjoy some peace at home and shares some of his experiences with Lester in order to quell his fears about his father to give him hope of his return. War is so sad, and everyone suffers when leaders decide to clash with each other. A fine post Gretchen, always a pleasure to read your work, love Dolly x

Hehe... Heddy has a boyfriend... aw... that is so sweet. You captured the emotions so well, you are an awesome writer.
I hope willis is okay and Lester doesn't leave. The first love is the deepest, at least Cat Steven says so.

Well done, Gretchen. Your book is captivating.

I'm happy Heddy kissed Lester. I am pretty sure at some point Willis will either find out or met Artie. I'm curious how that's going to happen and the emotions. I really like this story.

Dear Heddy, one can't help liking, along with her Nonni, she has a nice brother, a mum and dad who love, no wonder Willis said, there would be a boy who would think she is the most beautiful girl in the world, and I think Lester does, beautifully written Gretchen, blessings Roy

Ah, a lovely chapter. He is her boyfriend now, and it's sealed with a kiss. She's growing up. It will be interesting to see what happens with Artie.

Edit: You're (your) brother just came home.

This is so charming and beautiful to read. The characters are portrayed convincingly and the backdrop of the beach is so pleasing because it reminds me of a summer going on forever. I was quite surprised by Heddy's move on Lester but delighted by the response and particularly by that little detail that she now sees his freckles in a new, love-struck light. There are some small edits: 'you're brother' on 2 occasions - should be 'your brother' and 'without' - one word.
Thanks for sharing your talent, Gretchen! Debbie
