Very smart using a NaPoWriMo 2024 entry for a contest entry. Yes, we often have regrets of words not said. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I want to wish you luck with the contest.

Double dipping! I like it. I wish I'd thought of doing that. Anyway, I like the emotion and regret you packed into this short (very short) piece and congrats on hitting the finishing tape running.

I enjoyed the imagery of missed opportunities being cast as phantoms disappearing into the night. Makes one realize we must seize the day. Well said!

Those "would have" and "could have" words and deeds can still haunt us long afterwards. Great contest entry that includes the addressing of a loved one. Best wishes!

Your poem has a sense of longing and melancholy. For me it evoked a feeling of missed opportunities. I thought your word choices were excellent. Especially "phantoms in the night".

Beautifully presented and representative of so many opportunities found and lost in a short moment with a long memory. Maybe regret has its place in the grand scheme if past regrets become future cautionary tales.
