You hit a lot of hard truths in this free verse. I like that you started with the horrendous reality of the pandemic and what was in its wake, providing context for the personal story you shares. Your comments were touching and your photo gave a memorable texture to your heartfelt words.

Your words give a vivid and rich history of what you went through during the pandemic. My condolences on the passing of your father. Your poetic form gives a clear image of what you and so many others endured during the pandemic. As a nurse, who worked during the pandemic, I can relate to your words.

Thank you for your kind words and comments. I appreciate it. And thank you for your work during the pandemic--our medical workers were and are our lifesavers.

My 99+ year old dad died in 2019 from congestive heart. Until then he never had a problem. I wonder if covid was here sooner. I'm so sorry you lost such a good man too. Yes last of a generation both. I understand. Beautiful poem. I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for your Author Note. My husband and I still live like 2020 in a way because I'm immune suppressed and have asthma. I am stuck being scared but we try to go out now to doctors only. We're healthy but 4 people died from my family and I can't get passed fearing covid.

I feel your emotion.

Best wishes,

Alexandra

Thank you for your kind words. Aside from 3 knee replacements on the same knee, one bypass & one gallbladder surgery, my dad was very healthy, too. He took a minimum of medications at his age, drove into his 90s, & was mentally sharp right up to the end. I had Covid twice, the 2nd time it wasn't as severe, but I believe I might now have what they call Long Covid because my lungs were affected so I, too, don't go out much--do all my shopping online & am careful of getting respiratory viruses. I'm so sorry for your losses. Covid really did a number on this world, so many sad losses everywhere. Stay healthy! Thanks for reading my work!

This poem eloquently reflects the struggles of 2020 and the hope for a better 2021, while also honoring the memory of a loved one. The emotional journey is conveyed effectively through evocative language and poignant imagery. Overall, a well-crafted piece that captures themes of resilience and loss.

There is so much sadness in this poem, really deep in thought and strong emotions. I think it will resonate with many, for those badly affected by the pandemic just like your family. I really like the flow, how it told a story. Im sorry for the loss of your loved ones. Well done

I wasn't personally affected by COVID. I'm unemployed still and when I caught it i was sick but fully recovered. We had extensive shots in Australia to stop it spreading and it worked.
I'm sorry for your many losses as U described here. 100 years is a long time to live and I'm sure your father, was grateful to have such a loyal family with him when he was alive. He would have been proud of you all, nevertheless.

This poem, Requiem, is a heartfelt testimony for the struggles and loss brought to you and the country from COVID19. So sorry for your loss, but here's one for your dad.

Yes, Covid was a disaster for many of us. You bring out the sorrow that you have gone through with the passing of your dad so well. I wish you the best for the contest.

This is a beautiful tribute to a patriarch who has left behind an enduring legacy. Sometimes it is through trials and troubles that we learn to appreciate that which we take for granted. Thanks so much for sharing this heartfelt work!

The structure of the poem is fluid and organic, mirroring the ebb and flow of emotions that come with loss. The pacing is deliberate, allowing for moments of reflection and introspection. Each line builds upon the last, creating a narrative arc that unfolds with quiet intensity.
