I really don't write a lot of fiction but I have written a few poems that started out one way and took on a life of their own. So I think I know what you're saying I believe I can relate. Great job if it's not too late I'll look it up in the contests.

    hi Doc!
Thanks so much. I think that often, whether rewrite poetry, fiction, or nonfiction, our work turns out like our kids ? it just goes where it goes, despite our best leading. Lol I need to zip over to your profile and thank you. I?m not sure why I?ve never done that and I?ve met too.M thank you so much.

The Exhibitionist and the Prude is my prime example of this phenomenon.

This is based loosely on reality.
I worked in an office where I was the only guy in they're a bunch of female nurses and CNA's and social workers and clerical staff. There were three restrooms in the office complex and one that I primarily visited. I noticed the shades or sometimes closed and other times open I just began to wonder to myself why the shades would be closed and that poem wrote itself.

"The exhibitionist and the prude" is in my portfolio and probably the most risqué poem I've ever written, although I don't think it's risque. Thanks for connecting.

I'm laughing out loud, because this happens to me with every novel I write. I start with a very detail timeline and outline, with tons of research. As I start writing either my heroin or hero decide to travel off course. I argue and fight with them. They normally end of winning. I get really frustrated when the stupid dog starts doing. In the story I'm posting now, the dog changed its name four times. Not at all good. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. As you can see, I can relate to it. Good luck with the contest.

    Hate that just the truth!
my aunt used to write romance stories. I was in college and living with her, so every night she wandered into my bedroom and read me the most recent part of a chapter. We were getting close to the end of the book and she quit coming in. I asked her what was up and she explained to me that she had to kill both of her protagonist in a car wreck. I?m sure my eyes flew open and hollered "she told me that they had refused to cooperate with her initial plotline so she killed them. Lol I have been tempted, myself? I?m glad this hit your bone just the right way. 😊
Thank you, my friend. Many blessings to you

My characters are about like me and won't cooperate at all. But it works for me because I'm a rules are made to be broken kind of guy. If we follow all the rules, then nothing ever changes. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I know people who outline every chapter, do their character Bible, stick to it and damn the bullets. But not me it lives my characters live and breathe inside my head for weeks before I start writing, and they just do their own bit. 😊 but it can be frustrating.
    Thank you for reading, bless

Good for you! I believe that outlined stories cause the writing to be mechanical, as most are. I?m even more spontaneous than you. An idea or a character comes to mind and I sit down and start writing, letting the character journeys take things where they want to go. I like the way you think!

I don't think I'm ever truly in control, and when think of it, because we're made in God's image, why do we have to anything more than what God made us to be. Beautifully written Deb, blessings Roy
