That's so cool! I have not seen this kind of mantis. We do have the regular green ones come in the summer and fall. In tai chi, we have a "mantis strike" move so even humans mimic the mantis as this one mimics the orchid. Best wishes in the contest!

I had never heard of them, aren't they amazing? The world has so many unique, beautiful and odd things. We still no virtually nothing about our oceans.
Nice picture and good writing. Karen

That's a cool bug. I'm glad to know of its existence, thanks to this poem. I love the picture. The poem fits the syllable count and was informative. I like the first line because it gives the poem some anticipation. How long will it be still before springing at its prey?

Ciao mystery poet, you now have two votes.
I knew about this mantis, beautiful yet ferocious.
It reminds me of a ninja, hidden in plain sight and each strike fast as lightning.
The female nearly always devours the smaller male while they are still mating.
The male can continue mating even without its head.

Nice complementary picture art choice.
Thanks for educating me on the orchid mantis, as I'd never heard of them. Interesting how it camouflages to get its meal.
Nicely met the line and syllable count requirements of this 5-7-5 contest. Good luck!

How clever nature is and there are few insects that disguise their appearance and look like flowers in order to catch their prey, I enjoyed this fine presentation, love Dolly x

This is definitely a unique insect! I had never seen or heard about one before, but I guess that's to be expected since they live nowhere near me. I liked your 5-7-5 poem, and you got the syllable count correct. I also liked the picture you supplied. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
