The color red (and especially scarlet) refers to fire, to powerful emotions, and also has the implications that it cannot last long. There is a brief moment of intense emotion, and then regrets remain.

Two people passed on the street, but each felt passion so strong, from when their eyes met, it couldn't be mistaken. They longed to find each other, and eventually did. WOW!! The passion was unmeasurable. I enjoyed reading. LOL

Well this was certainly a poem of longing. Yet somehow I feel that this yearning for the absent person will never be satiated. I made up my own story from this. A woman whose husband or lover is lost at war. There is know word of his death but she somehow knows. Her heart aches. Never to be the same again. Beautifully written. Gretchen

I love your imagination. Tanka is open to interpretation. My intent was two lovers who miss each other but soon would meet. It goes with the style of tanka. The foundation comes from the 7th century at the Imperial Court where lovers exchanged love letters (tanka).

Beautifully done suite of tanka poems and you made it flow easily by not keeping to the rigid syllable count but using shorter lines like "relentlessly" for the pivotal line. You always express that feeling of longing so well.
