I like your choice of words, which to me has deeper meaning. It is easy to understand, but not really suggestive of one thing or the other.
In my mind, this is one 'strong' aspect of a well written Haiku, contemporary or traditional.

Hello, Joan,
Good contemporary haiku, you grabbed the concept well. Good syllable count and connection between lines. The presentation is very nice.

I get your message loud and clear, and yet find me reading it differently in my head, as follows, not to say it is better but a little tighter.
When I was given the ax
and found myself
throwing it at
my former manager.
You know I know too little to critique short pieces and I am more superfluous with my speech.
Fondly yours

I think you covered the rules perfectly, Joan, and what a wonderful poem it is. I can well imagine the throwing more exhilerating that the hitting. Well done, my friend, and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx
