Thanks, Heidi. We were better off right after the Revolutionary War, but I'm not so sure about it today.

Hi, Paul. For a moment there I thought you were going to reveal some of the deadly challenges to precious liberty that are engulfing your country right now. To do that you would have to attempt a glimpse into the future to add to this wee history lesson.
Good luck in what is bound to be a tumultuous year. Let's hope you get to keep the republic Jefferson and others created.

Thanks, Steve. I would need a few pages to list all the challenges that we face today.

good moving tribute using traditional rhyming patterns about that famous ride and its impact on US history. I read somewhere on a site debunking much of historical fact whether the ride occurred as we remember it having occurred. I think it was from a poem by Longfellow that the myth originated. No doubt it happened but maybe not quite the way we collectively thinkl another debunked myth was Marie Antonette's let them eat cake - she actually never said that just became a sound bite to use modern terminology that fed the flames of the anti-royalists revolutionaries.

Thanks, Jake. Many of the deeds of the past are embellished to make an entertaining story.

I am not aware of your country's history. Bits and pieces I have picked up, like the fighting between the Confederates and the Blues. Your first President. And the slave trade. Capturing Africans to work the cotton fields. Now the blacks are rising. All countries are guilty of these slave trades. K xx

Thanks for the review, Kay. This world is full of despicable acts that were perpetrated in the past.

And now they are coming back to bite us on the bum!

Hey Paul, I love this poem that commemorates the fallen heroes of the war for independence that happened so many years ago. Thanks for reminding all of us that the price of freedom is not cheap nor is it free. We need words like yours to place in front of us and our children and their children! Thanks for sharing.

Thank, Doc. I have tried to write a number of poems that illustrate the sacrifices that have been made to preserve our freedom.

-Very nice artwork and presentation, Paul.
-Your note is appreciated.
-You wrote a good poem with a good topic.
-Effective imagery and rhyme.
-A very good opening verse sets the scene.
-Verse two continues from there with
the villagers turning out to help in
the cause for liberty.
-A very good turn as you write about the
oppressed being free, but then was the
task of accounting for those who died in battle.
-A very good closing couplet.
-A well written sonnet; you should have put it in a contest.

Thanks, Pam. I think I did put it in a contest, but knowing me, I might have screwed up.

You are welcome, Paul. I am sorry you missed the contest, but there are always new ones to think about.

Hi Paul,
This well penned sonnet reminds of what the first Americans did to win our freedom. It is sad that it seems to be eroding over time. We need to do something to change that.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
If you celebrate it, Happy Easter.

You are so right, Paul. What happened and why, are now unanswerable. The greed took over separting the poor totally from those who took. It will never end unless something of great magnitude happens. We can only live in hope. Well done, this was a real mind opener. Happy Easter, my friend. Sandra xx

Thanks, Sandra. Jefferson would be sadly disappointed to see what is going on in our country.
