HAHAHAHAH!! Are you the same contestant who posted something similar in the 5-7-5 contest?? LOL. If so, this hatred of plaintains is getting severe now. It may be time to consider a Plaintain Support Group. I'm sending you love.

I love that you're leaning so hard into the anti-plantain theme.
You managed to do quite a lot with the 2-8-2 syllable constraint. The obvious gold nugget is the repeated SUB's in the second line (a sub sandwich? =P). This alliterative mouthful is immediately contrasted by the commanding third line (which itself is also a pun--BAN(ana) THEM!)--clever.
I am 100% sold on this propaganda.
Also, today I learned that "Kochbananen," which is German for "cooking bananas" (bananas to be used for cooking, as opposed to eating raw), is the German word for plantains. That explains a lot. I've lived in Austria for over a year now and only now noticed how bluntly descriptive the word is. Thank you for drawing my attention to this.

Thanks for this very cool trivia. I was simply using Google translate, and made sure to back translate it to make sure I'd used the right word, but had no idea it was essentially a compound word in German. The connection with the word "ban" on my part was coincidental, and lucky, unless I was subconsciously aware of it. Thank YOU for drawing my attention to this.
I have spent just one week in Austria, some 20 years ago, and ought to go back... although I might have skied over the border right before Covid happened.

so what exactly are plantains? are they like bananas at all? or is that the joke?
anyway, a great 2-8-2 poem for the contest
it should do well...
thank you for sharing and good luck!

Plantains are in the same family as bananas but they need to be cooked prior to eating, as they are much harder, and probably full of tannins. In Spanish the word "platano" is used interchangeably for both, leading to confusion and anger, heartache and stomachache.

ahh okay... they are raw bananas that need to be cooked LOL! thank you!

They aren't bananas, but they are similar. A raw banana just needs to ripen. A ripened plantain still needs to be cooked.

got it!! thank you! 👍

Ciao!,
As soon as I saw the pic I knew you were the author.
In all honesty , even Chiquita is not what it used to be.
You still pay more but the quality is not there anymore. Sometimes they are plain tasteless.

I sometimes get the organic ones and they tend to be a little better. But I am told that they are much better in the tropics. Thanks Tempeste!
