I love the way this story flows and the gifts bestowed by the oak tree. I think the mention of the writer's gender would help the image of the child sitting in the oak tree.

I'll begin with since my time is limited, I've started to read all the entries in the various contests but only comment on the one I liked the best. The Big Oak Tree has my vote. Good luck with the contest.

This is a deeply emotional and sad story about losing your Mother when you are young and grief affects us all in different ways and you found strength in sitting under an oak tree. A very touching post.

The memory you've shared is incredibly poignant and full of raw emotion. Losing a parent at any age is a profound experience, but the way you describe it, with the immediate sense of independence and strength gained from connecting with nature, is deeply moving.
